Fatimah bint Muhammad (fa-TEE-mah)

Whisper of Mercy

(a.k.a. al-Zahrāʾ (“the Radiant”))

Fatimah, was born the youngest daughter of Muhammad and Khadijah. From her earliest years she displayed compassion and tenderness, caring for her father during times of hardship and embodying the mercy that became central to the Mohammedan School.   Known later as al-Zahrāʾ (“the Radiant”), Fatimah’s presence was a source of comfort not only to her father but to the wider household. She married Ali ibn Abi Talib, Muhammad’s cousin, and together they became the nucleus of a household remembered for stewardship and mercy.   Her principle as a Whisper was mercy. She advocated for the vulnerable, cared for orphans and widows, and preserved her mother’s legacy of household generosity. Her influence helped balance the legal and structural aspects of the School with tenderness and compassion.   Fatimah died only months after her father, but her legacy endured through her children, Hasan and Husayn, who carried forward the principles of stewardship and justice. She is remembered as the Whisper of Mercy, the radiant thread of compassion in the fabric of the Mohammedan Schools.
