Zhang Yuehan (jang YWEH-hahn)
First Voice of Zhongguo (Current)
Zhang Yuehan was born in Linzi, the historic capital of Qi, where marketplaces once echoed with the voices of philosophers. Even as a child, he was drawn to conversation; his teachers observed that he did not merely memorize lessons but asked why customs took the forms they did. Identified early for Whisper training, he excelled in rhetoric and classical texts, but what set him apart was a remarkable ability to translate abstract principles into relatable stories. His peers called him “the storyteller of reason,” a phrase that has followed him into his role as First Voice.
Now in his early forties, Yuehan is admired for his calm gravitas in council and his kindness outside of it. His personal life reflects Linzi’s cosmopolitan spirit: he shares his household with a physician partner, a fellow Whisper turned educator, and two young apprentices who view him as guardian as well as mentor. Those close to him describe his household as a place of books, tea, and gentle debate, where questions are welcomed and laughter is common.
Outside his official duties, Yuehan enjoys painting calligraphy with broad, expressive strokes, often gifting his work to friends as reminders of balance and patience. He is also known for his love of Go, playing long matches late into the night, savoring the quiet strategy rather than victory. On weekends he tends a modest garden of plum and bamboo, believing that resilience and flexibility in nature mirror the virtues of governance. His presence is that of a man who steadies rather than compels, shaping the Accord not by force but through clarity and care.
