Shimon Kepha (SHEE-mon KAY-fah)
Whisper of Courage
(a.k.a. Peter)
Shimon, called Kepha (“the Rock”), was a fisherman from Bethsaida who later settled in Capernaum. Born into a guild family of fishermen, he learned the trade from his father and worked closely with his brother Andrew. His life was tied to the rhythms of the lake — casting nets, repairing boats, and trading in bustling markets along the Sea of Galilee.
He met Yeshua during a market gathering, drawn first by his parables and then by his presence. Shimon was impulsive, quick to speak and act, but his courage made him a natural Whisper. His principle was courage — not fearlessness, but the willingness to step forward despite weakness. He was known to falter, but always to rise again, modeling resilience for others.
As a Whisper, Shimon traveled with Yeshua through Galilee, organizing community gatherings and serving as mediator in disputes. After Yeshua’s death, he became one of the outward-facing leaders of the Christian School, spreading its teachings across lakeside towns. His memory endured in Capernaum as the courageous Whisper who embodied strength through perseverance.
Shimon died in Galilee, remembered as both flawed and steadfast — proof that courage is found not in perfection but in persistence.
