Mattityahu (MAT-ti-tyah-hoo)
Whisper of Integrity
(a.k.a. Matthew)
Matthew was born in Capernaum and worked as a guild scribe, often employed in tax collection for local councils. Though sometimes mistrusted for his association with levy work, he developed a reputation for scrupulous honesty. His shift into Yeshua’s circle marked a turning point: he embraced covenant as a path of integrity.
His principle was integrity — he believed that balance could not survive deceit, and that words must match deeds. Within Yeshua’s circle, Matthew served as a recorder and scribe, ensuring parables and sayings were preserved accurately. He was also known for reconciling disputes where dishonesty or broken contracts were at issue.
After Yeshua’s death, Matthew traveled to Antioch, where he became a central figure in linking Judean traditions with Persic assemblies. His writings formed some of the earliest structured scrolls of the Christian School, layered with his commentary on integrity in law and trade.
He died in Antioch, remembered as the Whisper of Integrity — the scribe whose precision preserved the teachings and whose honesty gave them weight.
