What's New?
A log of the latest changes in the Discontinuum going backwards from the most recent. This will also be the parent page for any meta articles and competition specific pages.
Date | Article(s) | Change Notes |
---|---|---|
26th Jul 2025 | Wider Realms | A simple cross reference index to keep track of minor locations referenced in passing in stories and articles. |
22nd Jul 2025 | Zero Point Keys; The Flux Forests;Prince Bohfulli;Lady Leilani Leigh;Caltella Herää | A bonus nineth article for Summer Camp 2025 and some supporting new articles and amended articles. I've also made a minor addition to the timeline for the Fey and am working on the boring business of city timelines for Ralsimoor and Jebbin City which will help me to move on into the age of the Third Popular Ascendancy and the Jewelled Queendoms when I next continue the forward progress of the Historical Overview of Magicians' End. Still a way to go but Summer Camp has brought me closer to that long term goal. The end is in sight! |
19th Jul 2025 | Peld | A bleak northern harbour on the coast of Myruthea. The final article of the eight I committed to for Summer Camp 2025. |
16th Jul 2025 | Garmal;Northern Plain Cakes;Greenfeather | An animal native to the Punished Plains of Myruthea on Magicians' End, a staple food of the nomads that roam the same plains and a condition you can get from eating specific foods (but only if you are an Owlblood). The second and third of these articles are also Summer Camp 2025 entries. |
15th Jul 2025 | Great Gate; The Fate Snowflake; The Throne Room; The Eviction; The Limit Protectorate | Three rooms inside the Fortress of Ocroven with some adjustments to the main article. Finally a Summer Camp qualifying article! This is the Eviction, a war that created something and needed all the other recent articles in the last update and this one to provide context for it. Then also a fleshing out into a full history for the Limit Protectorate and a new timeline for the age. |
11th Jul 2025 | The Fate Stones; The Sapphire of Vrandakan;Findil and the Sapphire of Vrandakan;Etan’s Heart; The Goolsyn Ice Star; The Oasis Root;Glim's Laugh; The Shard of Ocroven; The Fortress of Ocroven | I had a particular prompt in mind for my next Summer Camp article, which is a military conflict that creates something. It's not in this list, though! Turns out I needed to do a lot of preparation to provide supporting articles for the conflict itself and these are the articles that do it. At least we are jumping forward into the needs of the 6th millennium APC with this work (although individual articles may have much older origins) and the Fate Stones will also serve a secondary purpose even later in the main timeline, so it is all useful to me even if it doesn't get me any Summer Camp credits yet. I've also done some minor integration work to patch the new content into existing locations and to begin to flesh out the Limit Protectorate in a little more detail. It's quite likely I will be tweaking some of these articles a bit as I write up the conflict but they are basically complete. |
7th Jul 2025 | Lodirol McEnnim;Paloman Marne; In Praise Of Common Grace; The Defenders of the Common Grace | Two new people to support the new Summer Camp 2025 article In Praise Of Common Grace plus some enhancements to the existing article for the Defenders of the Common Grace to include this new lore. |
6th Jul 2025 | The Summer Queen;High Summer Well Dressings | A supporting article and one for Summer Camp 2025. These come from the realm of Earth Rustic. |
4th Jul 2025 | Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 8; Quarowl | Volume 8 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now published. The plot thickens as the Sisters of Vabatan must face a rival cult who call themselves the Unbound. The good news is that we have reached the year 3231 APC. The bad news is that I now envisage twelve volumes will be required to complete this story instead of ten, so one step forward and two back. However, volume 12 is planned to be quite a lot shorter than the others. Also some small additions to the article about Quarowl and the addition of a new city map to it. I need to concentrate creative efforts on Summer Camp 2025 this month and haven't made much progress yet with volume 9 of the diary, so I think we could be looking at September before that is released. |
2nd Jul 2025 | The Trouble Below | An underground skirmish between various orthodox and clandestine magical forces which took place in 3231 APC below the city of Quarowl on Magicians' End. |
1st Jul 2025 | The Synaptic Squeeze | Not a Summer Camp article, but some background history which relates to the forthcoming eighth volume of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan which is getting close to publication. |
30th Jun 2025 | Mistleflower;Mistleflower Oil;Stormcaps; Klewol Palm; Thull;Flora | Kicking off Summer Camp with two new qualifying articles (the first two) and others that don't qualify but that either help to support the first two articles or to further extend and "pretty up" the presentation of flora on Magicians' End in general. I am also updating my Summer Camp 2025 article with cross references to everything I'm actually submitting. I'll continue to update this page to sweep up other new things I may do that aren't valid for Summer Camp itself. |
26th Jun 2025 | Arch Baron;Gilden Weaver;Asrum Silver;Arcane Chancellor;Haldam Sutterby | Two new short little articles about two Arch Barons from the city of Quarowl. An update to the parent article to put them in their rightful place in the historic list. A new article about an Arcane Chancellor of the Institute of Magical Analytics. |
20th Jun 2025 | Tylisfort | A port city on the south east coast of the continent of Myruthea on Magicians' End. |
16th Jun 2025 | Summer Camp 2025 | My pledge article for Summer Camp 2025, hosted at the bottom of this page. |
13th Jun 2025 | Arvolun | A small port town on the northern coast of Tinturbean, which serves the city of Quarowl on Magicians' End. |
7th Jun 2025 | Cleomill's Basin | A beauty spot on the eastern flanks of the Eroveth Mountains of Myruthea on Magicians' End. I've also made a few minor enhancements to the map of Myruthea and added some supporting text in the article about the Puzzle Lords Directorate to integrate the history of Cleomill's Basin. |
5th Jun 2025 | Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 7;Magister/Magistra Primus;Adjudicator;Copolleme Family;Giconi Family;Fenlass Family; The Revolt of the Eight | Volume 7 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now published. This takes the story forward to the year 3184 APC. To support the diary, there is also an article about a significant event from the recent history of Zalgurim (in the timeframe of the diary), known as the Revolt of the Eight. There is a timeline under the article and also new family articles and character articles for people who play a role in this volume of the diary. These are not all listed here but can be found under the family, role or organisation articles that sit under the main Zalgurim article. |
26th May 2025 | Zalgurim; The Council of Eight;Copolleme Corporation; The Basilica of Bright Hope | The city of Zalgurim has been a focus for development this month with considerable enhancements to the original relatively small article. I've added a dedicated timeline for it, fleshed out the text, developed some more detailed history and added new artwork and new subsidiary articles. This is all in the service of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan since the story has now reached this ancient city. There is more work on some detailed family and local histories which isn't quite ready to go public yet and when that has been integrated into volume 7 of the diaries, I hope to be able to publish them all in early June. |
8th May 2025 | Watercups; The Opening of the Watercups | A species of aquatic plant, native to the rivers and streams of the Central Punjuki Mountains on Magicians' End and a festival associated with the flowering of the plant. |
2nd May 2025 | Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 6 | Volume 6 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now published (out of a planned 10 volume set), taking the story forward to the events in the momentous year of 3133 APC. I've made a bit of a start on volume 7 and some odds and ends for the remaining volumes but lots of work is needed before the whole story will be complete. |
20th Apr 2025 | The Bloom and the Fall; Aruvan Jafraan; Samiraj Azamdar; Jahanara Azamdar | Three character articles from the early age of the Four Aerial Courts on Magicians' End and a book of poetry which links them. |
16th Apr 2025 | Xocotlán | A tiny little article for the realm known as the Children of the Sun mainly created to house an image I liked that didn't fit into the realm I was supposedly creating it for (Magicians' End) but has a nice home here. The Children of the Sun is a very open ended and little explored corner of the Discontinuum, much like Magicians' End used to be before the extensive developments of the last two years. |
3rd Apr 2025 | Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 5; Moon Pregnancies | Volume 5 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now published. It covers a complex period of ten years in the life of Clarise Vabatan and took me longer to formulate the plot and compose the diary entries than in previous volumes. I think I'm now in a better place to progress the story into the following volumes but clearly the diary has become a huge writing project for me, so we'll have to see how they go. I don't expect to be making major revisions to this volume, but as ever with this tale, I have to reserve the right to go back and change or add things if I feel later parts of the story demand it. The Moon Pregnancies are an ancient ritual of the Enfolders of Magicians' End and this new article will support future work on volume 6 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan. |
24th Mar 2025 | Greystow; Deep Greys; Far Greys; Garald Grey; Johanus Grey | Although work continues in the background on the Diary of Clarise Vabatan and I have made reasonable progress, the pace has slowed as I continue to mull over some plot issues. As a result, I'm restructuring the next part and will end up splitting it in a different place. I'm close to making chapter five public but might hold back until I have two parts ready to publish, since there could be some volatility until I get even deeper into the story. In the meantime, realising that the potential reader may now want to know a little more about the Tinturbean town of Greystow, I have revised and enriched that article to create a new timeline for the town, a gallery, two new political parties (and their founders) and a little more body text about its history and places of interest, with illustrations. All this can be found via the main article about Greystow. |
31st Jan 2025 | Katrapetch | WorldEmber 2024 was a good opportunity for me to move ahead with the documentation of the timeline of Magicians' End and I managed to advance into the Age of Shadows and add over 25,000 words to the Discontinuum in total. In 2025 I want to resume work on the Diary of Clarise Vabatan, which has become a significant piece of fiction within the Magicians' End history in its own right. It was helpful to take a break from telling the story though, because I needed some time to think about the overall direction, plot and pacing and to reflect on how I ought to structure the remaining writing. That's now a little clearer to me and I plan to make some small edits to earlier chapters to allow for later changes. Mainly, I realised that I needed to do some more world building in Katrapetch, the home city of Clarise Vabatan. So my January in World Anvil has been entirely dedicated to expanding what we know about the city. In addition to the main article, I have created several new sub-articles about some important suburbs, explored the legal system as it works beyond the palace, and added a few new historical events to the timeline. Most significantly, there are also now two brand new maps for the city centre and the greater region to aid in visualising the locations. I haven't listed everything here, since it can all be found linked inside the extended Katrapetch article, so have a look there if you're interested. |
31st Jan 2025 | Change Log : 2023 & 2024 | I've archived the original "What's New?" content found here, into a separate change log article linked at the bottom of the page. The idea is simply to reduce the clutter on the main page, allowing readers to focus on what is really new (or at least newer), whilst still being able to browse older change history if desired. This will also help the main page to continue to load quickly, which might not have been the case, had I continued to simply add to it indefinitely. I plan to follow the same practice in future years, creating fresh change logs for old data and probably also on a biannual basis. |
