The Fate Snowflake

The Fate Snowflake was the name for a large specialist arcane vault within the Fortress of Ocroven which was built to house the Fate Stones and to hold them in the required conditions and orientation for Prince Rygarde's arcane experiments. It was also the name of the device of metal and magic that held the stones together within that room, as shown in the illustration at the head of the article, and the specific meaning depends on context.   The Fate Snowflake was to be the engine of the ultimate transformation project to adjust the Laws of Form of Magicians' End and bring it into the archetypes bound together as the Limit Lands.

Architecture

The description of the room as a "Snowflake" was based on the hexagonal structure of the holding mounts for each of the Fate Stones, connected to one another via the central Limit Diamond. The room mirrored the geometry of the central arcane gem setting, but on a much larger scale.

History

The construction of the Fate Snowflake began early in the whole process of erecting the Fortress of Ocroven. It was the second major feature of the fortress to be built after the Great Gate.   The arcane setting at its heart, also called the Fate Snowflake, was made to house the Fate Stones, which Prince Rygarde had identified as the key to his strategy of gaining proper long term control of Magicians' End.   One by one, he took the stones, assembling the Fate Snowflake in stages.
