Cleomill's Basin

Cleomill's Basin is a perfectly circular pool which can be found on the eastern flank of the Eroveth Mountains of central Myruthea, east and south of the point where the Old Pale Empire Road crosses them at the Eroveth Pass.   The basin was constructed in 1430 APC on the orders of Lord Cleomill, one of the early aristocrats who was part of the Puzzle Lords Directorate. It was built to host a particular kind of arcane wargame, featuring miniature naval battles, between model warships.   A number of these tournaments took place in the 15th century, before the practice fell out of fashion. In subsequent centuries the site has reverted to a more natural state of wilderness but the original clean lines and geometric constructions remain.

Geography

Lord Cleomill chose the site for his arena, because it was in a location of great natural beauty within the lands he owned and whilst it was remote, it was reasonably accessible from the Old Pale Empire Road. The development of a route leading south from the Old Pale Empire Road, wandering the skirts of the mountains and finishing at a little halt close to the Basin, dates from the same time as the construction of the Basin itself, although the later continuation to join the Arginbury to Klaractazum road at the Tree of New Greening was not built for several more centuries.

Tourism

Travellers taking the short route west from Arginbury to join the Old Pale Empire Road at the Eroveth Pass sometimes make a short diversion to see Cleomill's Basin. It is not far from the Tree of New Greening, nor indeed from the town of Arginbury itself, although its creation predates the significance of both of these locations by several hundred years. Whilst the main route west does not actually meet the Basin, this by an original design to preserve its splendours from the eyes of quotidian travellers, it would be a very incurious individual indeed who did not make the minor detour required to visit the Basin at least once on their journeys through the region.   Whilst there is not much to see now, the location is set in a grand scenic bowl at the base of the mountains and the still waters of the Basin are famous for their reflective symmetric beauty.
