Stormcaps

Stormcaps are the fungal fruiting bodies of the stormroot mycelium, a species found in the north of Tinturbean and on the punished plains of northern Myruthea.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

The mycelium is a subterranean fungus that forms delicate filaments connecting the roots of mistleflower plants across a wide area. It "remembers" electrical surges and shares nutrient flows accordingly, prioritizing plants in post-burn regrowth. During the off-season, it draws in charged particles from the soil and stores them, subtly enhancing the potency of the plant’s oils.   The fruiting body shown in the image at the head of the article has a peculiarly crystalline morphology.

Ecology and Habitats

Northern grasslands in Tinturbean and Myruthea, particularly in areas where storms are frequent. Underground networks near old lightning scars.

Additional Information

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

The species engages in a mutualistic symbiosis with the mistleflower. The plant provides the mycelium with sugars and habitat; in return, the fungus enhances the plant’s resilience and chemical potency.
