Authority for Imperial Sorcery
The Authority for Imperial Sorcery was a formal academy created to train mages within the Old Pale Empire. Although it was originally founded in Ralsimoor in 4437 BPC, it was relocated to Honirham as early as 4393 BPC, after only a little more than forty years, a circumstance which would ultimately play a part in influencing the decision to relocate the capital of the Empire there too, although this lay many years in the future.
The Authority has a good claim to be the first systematic and methodical institution to take the public understanding and application of magic seriously. Although there were earlier famous bodies which specialised in arcane lore even before the Sundering, such as the mages of the Kingdom of Snowborne and the Trinity Moon Triple Enfolding, these tended to be obscurantist, mystical or religious in nature and guarded their secrets closely. The Authority was charged with the systematic education of the magic users of the Old Pale Empire and it also conducted research, if not at the same level and with the same success as the later organisations that would succeed it after the Planar Conformation.
The AIS never recovered from the Fall of the Old Pale Empire, but already by this time the Hylacon Peoples were galvanising mages everywhere and their aggressive recruitment had begun to affect the number of AIS members even before Honirham was destroyed.
In the "modern" world, the AIS was superseded by the Hylacon Peoples and later by the Society of Arcane Adepts before the Institute of Magical Analytics and the competing Free Union of Magical Scholars assumed similar roles.
