The Goolsyn Ice Star
The Goolsyn Ice Star is the name both of a flawless sapphire set into a silver ring and the name of the ring itself. It was originally worn by the Enfolded One in the city of Goolsyn as a symbol of his authority.
History
The Goolsyn Ice Star was originally found in the northern continent of Zisleth where it was cut and polished under the direction of the mages of the Kingdom of Snowborne, who gifted it to the ruler of the Trinity Moon Triple Enfolding in 7881 BPC as a diplomatic gesture to honour the tenth anniversary of a treaty between the two powers. It was set into a ring on the orders of the Enfolded One who delighted in the purity and brilliance of the stone.
In the chaos of the Sundering, the Goolsyn Ice Star was lost. It was only recovered many centuries later as the glaciers in Tinturbean retreated far enough to allow archaeological investigations of Goolsyn to be undertaken.
It was in fact, a group sponsored by the Chapter of Fresh Waters who found the Ice Star in 6174 BPC and took it to Cynran. There it remained as one of the great treasures of Tinturbean, a source of pride for the continent even after it fell to the Old Pale Empire. But after the failed Tinturbean Insurrection which came to a bloody end in 3912 BPC, Emperor Ingrald II seized the Goolsyn Ice Star as part of his war reparations and it was taken to Zalgurim and added to the Imperial crown jewels.
After the fall of the Old Pale Empire the gemstone and ring went missing. It is now thought that it was moved to Sunrock for safety which was a bad idea, since Sunrock was overrun by the forces of the Dark Domains in the Breach Wars in 34 APC. It was apparently kept hidden during this time and was lost to history until it unexpectedly emerged, "found" by the mage Serndin in 1323 APC during the Arcane Supremacy. The stone had become separated from the ring but was unmistakably the Goolsyn Ice Star.
In the following centuries, the ownership of the gemstone became a troubling question with Tinturbean loyalists demanding that it should be returned to its continent of origin, whilst the nations and cities of Myruthea who retained custody, guarded it jealously as a symbol of their own prestige with the subtext that it also symbolised their position as the most important centre of power and dominance over Tinturbean, although in reality this was at best questionable and at worst laughable since none of them were anything like as powerful as the Old Pale Empire.
In the age of the Four Aerial Courts, the stone was gifted to the Arch Baron of Quarowl, reflecting the growing power of that city and moving the stone back to the western continent at last.
The Goolsyn Ice Star, as one of the Fate Stones identified by Prince Rygarde became an object of great interest to him. On 9th Doloph, 5161 APC, the Lord Mayor of Quarowl offered it to the prince, under extreme pressure. It was added to the Fate Snowflake where it remained until the battle called the Eviction brought an end to the Limit Protectorate.
Missing for a long while afterwards it was eventually recovered and played an important role in the Jewelled Queendoms several centuries later.
After Ixthamon overthrew the Jewelled Queendoms, the Goolsyn Ice Star was lost again and its whereabouts are currently unknown. Since the stone seems to have a habit of being lost and found, we cannot rule out its rediscovery again at some unknown time in the future.
