Mount Kailash
Kailash stands aloof, its pyramid summit untouched by climbers out of reverence. For Hindus it is Shiva’s abode, for Buddhists the axis of the universe, for Jains and Bon, a path of liberation. Four sacred rivers spring from its flanks - as if the world’s conscience were melting into flow.
Kailash is humanity’s purest metaphor for restraint. To walk its 52-kilometer circuit is pilgrimage enough; ascent would be hubris. Pilgrims circumambulate in silence, hearing the crunch of snow as syllables of devotion.
The mountain’s preservation is overseen by the Himalayan councils, ensuring no exploitation disturbs its solitude. Kailash endures as proof that the sacred can exist without possession - holiness defined by distance kept.
