Week 1: Nourishment
We must never stop dreaming. Dreams provide nourishment for the soul, just as a meal does for the body.
— Paulo Coelho, The Pilgrimage
Assignment 1
Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t?complete
I have talked a bit about nourishment at W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P., but I guess this will be a time to lean into more foods and stuff to deal wth Junior Sprouts mysteries about the labs. We can cover plants and animals as well, along with how they are nourished and cared for by the Base Operatives and Scientists. For the soul aspect, we can focus on some of the more personal side of the company. I know I covered some of it a year or so ago, but there's a lot we never got to.
Most of the agency's charges are given sufficient nutrition on a regular basis. It is interesting to think of other sources of nutrition as well, such as energy for electronic devices and beings. This makes me think of when WILLOWISP has power outages (very seldom). They work to prevent their bases from ever going completely dark, but it happens on occasion...
Assignment 2
Download the pledge document and fill it out with your goal for Summer Camp!complete
I also plan to take part in ArtFight...
My motivations to keep working in this world are:the seldom readers who have taken interest the mighty few financial supporters the need to get the thousands of stories and ideas out of my brain the confidence that whoever needs to see my work will see it Based on these things, I suppose the main areas I am going to focus on are those that my supporters are interested in. Second, I have been on somewhat of a Petrichor Four kick, so I might stick with Stew and the Sprouts idk.
Since I failed WorldEmber that time, I have put on my pledge that I aim to complete as many prompts as I can and receive the highest possible badge. I always shoot for all, but if I don't make it, I will try to be kind to myself. I know I have a lot of hectic things going on in my life.
Assignment 3
If you found any outdated articles in your world, update the most important ones now! Do the same with your worldbuilding meta.complete
I ended up taking a look at the meta and have made small punctuation edits and reworded a couple of things. I also recently updated a lot of articles for the 5th World Anvil WorldBuilding Awards.
Week 2: Roots
Change your opinions, keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots.
— Victor Hugo
Assignment 1
Look at the cultures and areas you’ll focus on for Summer Camp, and think about how their past shaped them.complete
The cultures within W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. are interesting to cover. As we talked about nourishment, this theme of Roots can really help dive into that more. The history of the organization and how things were before what is considered modern day. We can also further highlight the backstories of characters and the events in their lives that shaped them to be who they are today.
Assignment 2
Go to your world’s homepage and imagine you’re a new reader discovering the setting for the first time. What should you change to make the experience more engaging?complete
I feel that my homepage is quite basic. I don't want it to be too overwhelming, but I see that it could be considered not informative enough. There is one hook/pitch sentence and the rest, you kind of need to know what's going on to be interested. I suppose I could try to put somewhere that there are all sorts of games, stories, and more set in this world. I feel like I have that sentence somewhere but idk where.
Just realized it's on my https://www.wordigirl.com website.
I have now added a very minimalistic overview of what can be expected in the world.
AudioDramas - Stories - RolePlay - Games - Secrets - More
Assignment 3
Find your earliest worldbuilding project. What mistakes did you make that you want to avoid? What good ideas from those early days can you integrate into your current project? Remember to take a moment to be proud of how far you've come!complete
I am going to organize my articles and see which are the oldest. I feel like most of my first articles are in Wynsumheord but I will try to see what my oldest articles here are.
I figured out that WorldAnvil has no such native search function, but with the help of Brigid (by Hanhula), I am trying to do more research. In looking it up, I realized that my first articles were from Summer Camp of 2021. I think the main mistakes I made were not making the articles consistent and filled so that the sidebar is at length with the body, etc. But I have since created a system to help with that. The good ideas though, was I used to work on these on stream. Sometimes, I want to work off-stream because it helps me to hone my thoughts, but some of these articles had some inspiration from chat members for their titles and contents. These days, I mainly allow Paid Supporters to influence the naming and direction of articles, as they will allow me to show them what they are most curious about. During a recent Twitch Stream, I had supporters tip to make me play Truth or Dare. Even just from that, I have some things to explore: Looking more into the origin of Computerized Alert Relay Systems and which were the actually first official CARs, along with the origins of Bruce Machete and where he's really from (because it isn't California as I had originally thought XP).
Week 3: Metamorphosis
I cannot make you understand. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside me. I cannot even explain it to myself.
— Franz Kafka, The Metamorphosis
Assignment 1
What transformations and adaptations have the people in your world gone through? What changes are going on right now… and who is trying to stop them?complete
There are a lot of transformations going on at W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. with the organization itself and the characters. There are physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental changes that occur with the individuals, and there are structural changes that are happening around the company. This could include buildings and renovations, but it can also cover the administrative portion and how things are run. Some people embrace change, while others fight against it. This theme is apparent everywhere within the world.
Assignment 2
Choose a new genre, style, or author, and take a look at their art! Write what you learned from them and what inspired you.complete
hmm....I already consume all kinds of arts, genres, and mediums. I don't know how much new stuff I can do. I suppose I have been looking into different cultural things lately, to discover some of the backstories of my characters who come from countries other than the United States. It's something I've always done, since I write about a lot of perople and experiences that are different from my own. Even in other states and cities in my own state, there are different people everywhere.
Assignment 3
Read a couple of articles from the community, give them a like (and why not a sticker!), and write about what inspired you.complete
I will have to go around the community and see which articles I can read. I also think this is a great excuse to use the new summer stickers. I need to get to my almost 9,000 notifications and see some of that stuff lol. Maybe that will help.
I personally know a couple of sci-fi worlds, but I still feel like they have a different vibe from mine. There is also a lot of fantasy here on WorldAnvil, but I don't have to actually stick to the genre and style I'm writing in order to get inspiration. A lot of times, with the Reading Challenges I have done in the past, I get inspiration in the way that the article is laid out, or something about what the author is doing that inspires me to take action on my own projects. So, we'll see... Okay. I have decided to look at the Summer Camp Pledges of those who commented on my own pledge for this task... I loved the To-Do widget thingamadoodle that Kat Chiron added into the sidebar of their pledge! I think I will add something similar to my world...
I love the color scheme, fun font, and CSS that Make Lore, Not War used in this article! I also like how there is an opt-in subscriber group to unlock the Hidden Portal! I need to try to do more with that kind of stuff in my world...
I like how Dazzlinkat kept it short and sweet while also being very detailed to keep track of things. Also, the stream schedule at the bottom of the article reminded me that I should get mine together and probably put the proposed times here in my Prep and Progress article. I also see that Dazz has already finished two prompts! Which inspires me to get a move on quick...
Tyrdal also has an interesing pledge, but the radomizing camel is my favorite part! I would love to pus something similar in my world...
Week 4: Tomorrow
Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming.
— David Bowie
Assignment 1
Think about current events that will impact the future. Who is working to create a specific kind of future?complete
In my stories, I usually know the beginning, middle, and end of every arc and every life. I just don't want to show the public. A lot of it is considered spoilers. There are so many things that affect other things, no matter how insignificant. The W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. company as a whole seems to know where they want to go. A lot of characters have their desired futures mapped out as well. Will things go according to plan???
Assignment 2
Make sure everything’s ready—from your writing space to your writing schedule—before Summer Camp begins!complete
I need to get my streaming schedule ready. Also my supporter publishing schedule. I have a lot of perks to deliver on from this month that I want to knock out before July arrives. My room is very hot and we are experiencing a heatwave. I don't like to stream when there is a loud fan blowing into the microphone. I thought about setting up a lobby stream. I also need to prep Summer Camp in the Discord server and such.
Assignment 3
Who or what will help you achieve your goal? What will your sharing strategy be during Summer Camp?complete
My Infinite Imaginations Discord server is full of other worldbuilders and creatives. I will also be hosting Summer Camp there. In addition, I met The Big G in person and they asked me to become their accountability buddy! Also, I suggested that DreamCartographer and I become accountability buddies for ArtFight. <3
For my prep homework this Summer Camp 2025, I will primarily work in Secret Agent Someone's universe, but I will pay the Wynsumheord bros a visit if need be. <3
(and I finally put Mags and Syndri on ArtFight!)
Hope you have a great Summer Camp!
Thanks! Much success to you as well! <3
