The Webworm Challenge (often referred to simply as "The Webworm") is a regular event held by the W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. organization in which several Base Operatives are encouraged to attempt at disarming the organization's defenses. This is an exercise often held with the intention of discovering which of the company's operatives are especially skilled in the field of hacking, as well as embracing the opportunity to fortify W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P.'s security protocols. When the agents, attempt to break into the database, the agency is able to pinpoint various weakspots and repair them accordingly.   The Webworm is one of the only times at which employees of the agency are encouraged to attempt hacking the organization. Still, it is done in a contained virtual environment, and operatives are given an objective. If, during the Webworm, defenses outside of the designated virtual areas are penetrated, it is publicly declared that the operative who found fault shall not be penalized. They will be honored and congratulated for their efforts in keeping the organization safe by discovering inadequacies in the system.   There is still some debate whether or not the actual winners of The Webworm are not actioned after the fact. Many speculate that the agency utilizes The Webworm not to promote operatives but to weed out threats. Therefore, many are discouraged from joining the event. Some agents have even gone as far as to enter the event and intentionally do poorly as to take eyes off of themself, but this method is also highly discouraged and avoided do to the fact that some operatives are afraid at appearing intentionally incompetent could lead to being discharged from the company.
