Rhizome
The Rhizome technology is something that is super dangerous, yet it is a breakthrough and can be used for multiple purposes. The tech allows for agents to essentially be teleported into a simulated area that makes them believe everything is real. The sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings that are brought about while one is within the Rhizome are uncanny.
This technology has advanced over time. At its inception, it was simply a CD-ROMesque program that required agents to sit down at a computer to play, as if it were some open world video game. As virtual headsets became popular, there were more installments to add more realistic movement and experience to the virtual space. using special goggles, gloves, and other apparatus, it was more akin to playing an advanced VR game. Still, this was not satisfactory for the company. Scientists continued to work and work until they came up with an even more immersive solution that included tapping into the brains of the individual agents and tricking them to believe that what is happening to them is really occurring in real life. this can be dangerous due to the delicate nature of the brain and the fragile nature of the mind.
Access & Availability
Most agents do not have access to this simulated area. It is strictly off limits and one must have a security clearance or strict specific instructions or directive to enter one of the Rhizome Zones. This is because there are many secrets hidden in the technology. also, scientists do not want unauthorized people to be able to break the technology. in addition to that, this is also forbidden for the agents' own safety, as previously mentioned, the fragile brain state and mental capacity of humans may easily malfunction over an overload of technological input directly into the brain
Complexity
the technology is super advanced to the point where many don't know how it is made. the programmers responsible for the programming of the software are not even aware of the extent of this technology due to the fact that it is constructed in batches. over the span of years, this project has been constantly worked on, tweaked, and improved by several W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. Base Operatives and advice from Higher-Ups has also shaped the platform.
Discovery
W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. has always put agents through experimental training exercises, but as technology advanced, they found ways to utilize the technology that was emerging at the time, mainly for entertainment purposes (at least publicly)
