Warning to all citizens!

Potions from Aquatio have been found in circulation in the capital!   Under no circumstances consume them!   Immediately warn the authorities upon discovery of any suspicious substances and individuals!

What are potions?
  1. A ritual done in advance and stored in liquid form, allowing its user to trigger it at will.
  2. Like all rituals, it uses magic from the environment, but it can also borrow power from the creatures and plants from which its ingredients come.
  3. It is the main production of our enemy Aquatio. Drunk at every meal by their citizens, it has pushed their entire population towards degeneration.
What are the differences between devices and potions?
It is a question of control.
  • Potions force you to take inside your body the magic of the environment and make it yours. You are not in control of what it does to you.
  • While devices are mainly powered by the users' magic, it is true that titanic architecture is also powered by environmental magic. However, in both case the user is always in control of the magic and defines precisely exactly where it goes and what it does.

The dangers of potions

No reversibility
There are no switch you can turn off to stop the magic of a potions or even cancel it. Most effects of potions are long-lasting or even permanent. This is especially dangerous in case of allergy, badly brewed potions, bad ingredients or potions past their due date. However, potions can cause damage even when working properly: for example, a potion healing surface wounds is likely to trap foreign materials like gravels inside the wound, forcing doctors to reopen it with a knife and to give another potion to the patient. Repeating this process will end up modifying the structure and aspect of the skin, making it lost its elasticity and look ugly.

No control of the area affected
You cannot control where the magic of the potion goes in your body and where it takes effect, and so even if a potion works well in one organ, it can damage another. The best example of this is strengthening potions popular with Aquatarian soldiers: they enhance the arm and leg muscles but also have dangerous effects on the heart and can cause strokes.

Cheating at sport, leading to bad morals
Taking a potion steals magic from the environment, and so it results in cheating in the Duelling Arena and circus, rendering all competitions meaningless and destroying the spirit of the sports. This encourages low morals among the population, pushing people to take shortcuts in everything and further weakening their skills, resolve, and resourcefulness.

Cheating social status, leading to population degeneration
Even more alarmingly, stealing environmental magic dilutes the natural differences of power between men, and so it dangerously blurs social classes, making inferior men rise and allowing them to hide among their better. With time, this results in a mixing of social classes and interbreeding, leading to a global weakening of the population's magic. This is what happened to Aquatio and why we keep beating them so easily. Let us not fall in the same trap.
