Main symptoms

  1. Pain in the back, building up until it eventually causes an inability to stand.
  2. General state of fatigue.

Natural history

Patient 1's symptoms first appeared during pregnancy at age 24. They were not distinguishable from normal pregnancy symptoms, despite an intensity maybe slightly higher than average.   Symptoms intensified right after birth and over the course of the next 5 years. Patient started by not being able to do long walks as she used to, then became unable to shop for groceries, unable to walk to work, unable to leave the house, and now even unable to contribute to household chores and became a burden to her husband.

Patient 2 appeared to be a normal child a birth and during adolescence but started exhibiting symptoms at 23. She's still in denial and attempting to hide among normal people. Denouncing her is useless when she won't be able to keep it for long.

Triggers of flare-ups

  • Infections affecting muscles or injuries to the back.
  • Exercise or effort, either in the form of a walk or of a simple house chore.
  • Lack of sleep or disturbed sleep.
  • Specific foods, in particular cheese.

Potential causes

Weak magic in the mother's lineage.

Treatment recommended

Trigger confrontation

Patients should not avoid triggers of flare-ups but confront them, otherwise they will never build up their strength and magic power enough to surmount the disease.   Indeed, the cause runs as much in bad blood as it does in weak will and the lack of efforts put into fighting the disease rather than dramatically succumb to it and demand that their entire entourage serve them on their knees.   A confrontation program has been established and explained to the patients with the goal of slowly building up their magic to the bare acceptable minimum.

Medications
Pain medications are to be withheld and to only be offered in small amount and potency before willingly confronting a trigger, so as to encourage patients' efforts.

Abuse
Patients are to be monitored carefully for any signs of potion usage, and their house is to be observed for any suspicious substances. Patients' inner moral weakness obviously place them at high risk of abuse.

Ooooohhhh that doctor would be catching these hands if that was my wife and kid. Imma show you discomfort, holy hell. You wrote that so clinically cold Amelie my goodness, that dug right into my flesh and flared me up proper and its a fictional tale (though sadly more rooted in fact than it ever should be). Like my goodness the immediate fire that flared up in me was....impressive.     Well written, most convincing. Though I may not like the subject matter, tis masterfully done, so into the collection it goes.

Thanks <3   Yes, this unfortunately was inspired by some real things... Here Illénie's father has decided to give up his entire career and start study medicine to save his daughter and wife all by himself if nobody else is going to do it!   Unfortunately, he's going to have to do by having the guy who wrote this article as a teacher...

Noooo, not the cheese!   The way this is written is absolutely horrific, but sadly all too accurate a depiction of the attitude of some doctors. Reminds me of a particularly bad hospital stay.   I am looking forward to reading more about Illénie

Indeed, still far too many doctors still act like that... *sending you hugs*   The food you love making you sick is the worst. But surely, this small little bit will not make you sick this time, right? Right???   Thanks for your comment <3
