The kingdom of Milara

Its rival is its Northern neighbours, Aquatio, with whom they have warred three times in the past century. As Aquatio has recently made a major breakthrough in their favoured field of potions, it seems that another war is imminent...

Political system
Milara is ruled by a powerful king who is generally popular and considered to be a good ruler. He nevertheless faces opposition from his Royal Council, as well as numerous coups attempts as everyone is allowed to to try their chance by publicly duelling him. Indeed, power is seen as primordial in Milara, and surely, anyone able to seize the throne has proven that they have the necessary capacities to govern....

Duelling
Since they worship power, the inhabitants of Milara are passionate about duelling. The Duelling Arena of the capital, Lernée, is the best in the kingdom and holds daily matches and annual Championships. Those who wins 10 times the Classic Championship are considered eligible for the royal council alongside top military officers. This ensure that duellers are constantly surrounded by scandal, such as the last potion-cheating affairs with Champion Dueller Verteuil...

Disability
Another consequences of this worship of power is that individuals with disabilities are seen as weak magically, since "Magic is Might" and so the magic of anyone powerful would heal them automatically. Disabled individuals are scorned and are excluded from society.

Magic
Everyone posses some raw magic in their body, but controlling it is extremely difficult. To overcome this limitation, people use artefacts, rituals, or potions. While Aquatio favours potions, in Milara they're forbidden; instead devices and the mathematics necessary to create them rule. As such, mathematicians are highly valued and respected. At the top of the field are Royal Mathematicians whose senior members are even part of the Royal Court.
