Verteuil and his weapons

Verteuil

Champion Dueller Verteuil is the current top dueller in Lernée's Duelling Arena. However, with his recent potion scandal, his past 9 victories in the Classic Championship have been put into question. Will he be able to recover from this disgrace, or will the new anti-cheating controls put a nail in his career? Place your bets now!

The Hover

What: Oscillating blades at the end of a staff, not attached to the staff but hovering and controlled by it. They cannot be blocked by a sword or casual shield, and are made for penetration.   Circumstances: Perfect for forcing an opponent to use more powerful shields or wards to tire them, or if they are already exhausted, for the final blow.   Famous bits of actions: During Verteuil's first duel against Joinville for the final of the Classic Championship 10 years ago, it kept being blocked off dramatically, yet Joinville completely exhausted himself with this and practically collapsed by himself.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Net: 1:3; Against the Scales: 1:3; Against Frosty: 1:3; Against the Vanes: 3:1.
The Fort

Weapon - fort.png

What: A shield limited in size but incredibly powerful. It can block anything if hit in its centre, but if hit on the side it is in danger of being unbalanced and of the hit sliding towards its user.   Circumstances: To block powerful blows but preserve endurance, useful against powerful opponents to make them tire themselves, dangerous against quick and agile opponents.   Famous bits of actions: In all of Verteuil's numerous duels, not a single opponent has managed to pierce the Fort. This has become a major objective of many duellers, encouraging them to waste their efforts on it rather than on developing a strategy against it.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Net: 1:10; Against the Scales: 3:1; Against Frosty: 1:5; Against the Vanes: 20:1.
The All-Around

Weapon - all-around.png

What: A ward surrounding its user, but with a shield component hovering on its surface and moving towards an attack to reinforce the ward. The user can pump more magic to reinforce the ward or the shield.   Circumstances: Great for unpredictable adversaries when you don't know what attack to expect from what angle.   Famous bits of actions: During last year's final of the Classic Championship, it dramatically failed against the Vanes and got slashed through.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Net: 3:1; Against the Scales: 1:3; Against Frosty: 10:1; Against the Vanes: 1:3.
The Knuckler

What: Handheld metallic weapons worn around the knuckles to concentrate magic and the strength of a punch towards a small contact area.   Circumstances: Great for a user who loves contact. Made for direct blows to break wards, shields, and weapons alike with pure strength. However, its use is very tiring and has to be limited.   Famous bits of actions: Has dramatically been used to deliver Verteuil's final blows in all of his duels so far!   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Net: 5:1; Against the Scales: 5:1; Against Frosty: 5:1; Against the Vanes: 20:1.

Olivier and his weapons

Olivier.png

Olivier won the Classic Championship by default last year following the mid-duel reveal of Verteuil's potion cheating. An exceptional result for someone's first participation in Milara's top duelling tournament! Yet, despite Olivier beating all other duellers, the disappointing end of the final has many contesting the legitimacy of this win. Will Olivier be able to prove them wrong? Place your bets now!

The Net

What: A net capturing all magic emitted by the objects and individuals it touches, preventing them from doing anything.   Circumstances: Great for robbing weapons of their magical edge and for disabling shields, but cannot get through powerful wards.   Famous bits of actions: In a dramatic moment in the final of the Classic Championship last year, it neutralised the Hover.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Hover: 3:1; Against the Fort: 10:1; Against the All-Around: 1:3; Against the Knuckler: 1:5.
The Scales

What: Body armour that makes blows glance off rather than fully block them so as to limit the energy it takes to defend from them.   Circumstances: Perfect for getting closer to the opponent without losing time blocking hits fully. However it cannot stand a direct hit, and so its owner need to be in constant movement.   Famous bits of actions: During the final of the Classic Championship last year, it was able to endure the Hover and allowed Olivier to get close enough to Verteuil to throw the Net at it.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Hover: 3:1; Against the Fort: 1:3; Against the All-Around: 3:1; Against the Knuckler: 1:5.
Frosty

Weapon - Frosty

What: An ice maker that makes ice paths on the ground or in the air that last for a few seconds.   Circumstances: Made mostly for affecting the environment, but can also be used against other duellers to slow them down or even freeze them entirely. Great at getting past shields but useless against mildly powerful wards.   Famous bits of actions: Despite Olivier using it for the entirety of the Classic Championship last year, Frosty's strength still managed to surprise Verteuil in the final and to briefly immobilise him.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Hover: 3:1; Against the Fort: 5:1; Against the All-Around: 1:10; Against the Knuckler: 1:5.
The Vanes

Weapon - vanes.png

What: Blades that attach to shoes and have magic running alongside their edge.   Circumstances: Perfect for moving on ice at light speed. Also great as weapons for slashing through wards.   Famous bits of actions: During the final of the Classic Championship last year, Verteuil underestimated them and did not reinforce the All-Around enough, allowing Olivier to slash through it.   Odds of final blow/block: Against the Hover: 1:3; Against the Fort: 1:20; Against the All-Around: 3:1; Against the Knuckler: 1:20.

However, don't forget that skills are much more important than equipment!

Overall odds: Verteuil 1:Olivier 2
