Wellsy's Reading Challenge 2025

Hello one and all. Summercamp is over and it was a blast. I think this is my 2nd or 3rd year taking part and I loved it as ever. Mostly because I always try and stick to a general theme but it never seems to last. This year however was the closest I've ever been to that personal goal (YAY!). Anyway let me tell you how it went, what I've learnt and my plans for the future.

Summercamp

So, this year for Summercamp I really wanted to focus on a single area of my world and expand it so I had some ideas for my solo campaign. With each article relating to the campaign setting or a faction or items that could be found. And I have to say, I believe I managed that with all 16 articles which is great. My second goal was to write at least 500 words per article to give it more substance and try explore my ideas more than usual, again succeeded in that. Finally I wanted to add narrative to each article similar to how I've seen other Anvilites do in their worlds. This was done by adding the internal monologue of a character called Slate D'Rackk, a clay golem from the realm of giants. Now I did add his thoughts to all the articles but I have to admit, it was pretty hard to imagine how he would react to certain things. That was, until I created a character article for him. Essentially a character sheet with a quick background and personality traits to give me a better idea of what kind of person he was. Ever since then, writing the internal thoughts was so much easier.   I honestly struggled a little this year to keep writing consistently due to work and family priorities but still glad I took part. It produced some stories that I never thought I would write and it was so nice to finally stick to a theme for all my articles and keep to it. Really proud of myself :D I'll include a list of all submitted articles at the bottom of this article.

Goals

Now, I made myself some goals at the start of the year. As part of the New Years Resolution Challenge. And they were the following:
  • Continue to update old articles, 1 article per week if possible
  • Write more short stories within the world, its the whole point I joined World Anvil
  • Challenge myself to write one of every article template over the next year
So first one, I feel like I have let slide recently but I do want to keep updating old articles. I currently am sitting at 19 rewritten with another 30 or so on the list. Will I get to them all? Honestly probably not, I would rather go to them when I have something interesting to write or feel excited about adding it to the world. So that's a long burning goal I feel.   In terms of writing more stories, I feel like I have written a few narrative based articles in my world so far. Including A Wand’s Perspective and The Everyday Life of Non Adventurers which I have really enjoyed. Intending to do more so no stopping on that front. My dream is to write enough short stories based in Violem that I can publish an anthology to share with the world.   My final goal has been a real surprise to me. on top of rewriting old articles, I have successfully written one of every type of template except for 'Title' this year. And it's been really fun. Made me think outside the box a lot more and just really enjoyed coming up and expanding ideas. Once I finish the title concept I have in my head 'The Wild Spore - Coming Soon' I really want to go back and pull stories and narratives out of those articles to really flesh out the world more. Just snippets of the people and lives within Violem.   I think in the last months of 2025 I want to really focus on goal 1 and 2. Really think about my past articles and expand them with more knowledge and experience writing (hopefully anyway) and have some fun writing more stories. It's been a blast so far and I can't wait to see what I come up with in the future. It is also a plesaure to read other articles for inspiration and learn about the weird and wonderful ideas of everyone else on World Anvil. Keep at it and see you soon :)
