Nhalic change

During special times of the year, when everything aligns during a full moon, a transformative phenomenon is triggered in certain people. These individuals will begin to transform into beings resembling wolves, but are, in most cases, able to speak and walk upright. Although a general rule for someone who witness someone undergo the transformation are to run in the different direction, hoping that they wasnt spotted.   No one is quite sure who the first person to be transformed into these beasts was, but there have been stories about them dating back as far as even the longest living races can remember.   For a transformation can take place, countless things have to be present for it to happen, while some of the requirements are still unknown, those that are known includes the person of interest have to be at a certain distance from certain temples as its believed that the presence of the deity in these temples can block the transformation, temples that are supposed to be able to block the transformation are temples that are dedicated to deities such as Lunara and Solaria. Another of the requirements for the transformation is that it has to be at the right time of the year, although this requirement is a bit more individual, as it's believed that each person has their season where a transformation is possible. Some scholars have noticed that it seems to only be humans and elves that can undergo this transformation. There are plenty of stories for the dwarves about people turning, but its never a dwarf, always either a human or an elf.     These people who can transform are, by some groups, seen as blessed by the gods and, by other groups, feared and exiled.

I like this take on the mythology of werewolves (or werewolf-adjacent creatures). I particularly like the idea that the transformation is seasonal.
