Twist Tongue
Transmission & Vectors
This illness comes from eating too many Luna Tarts. It is usually only suffered once as the person does not usually wish to repeat the experience.
Causes
It is believed that the main cause of the disease is the combination of two ingredients in the tart Half-Moon Bloom petals and Silver Tongue Leaf which are necessary for the flavour in small amounts but in excess the combinations cause the poisoning.
Symptoms
The most common symptom is vomiting and a fever which usually lasts for about a day, it is not life threatening but is uncomfortable.
In more serious cases the patient will also suffer hallucinations, which can reach a really annoying point when it means your brother is running down the hall at midnight screaming about pixies in his bedroom. This again is not life threatening.
Treatment
There is no real treatment beyond keeping the patient comfortable by keeping their temperature down, keeping them fed, and making sure they don't hurt themselves during their hallucinations.
Prognosis
The condition is not fatal and is seen as a common childhood illness. Extremely rarely, side effects of the condition can cause severe complications.
Sequela
Most patients will fully recover with no ill affects after the initial week of illness.
Affected Groups
It usually affects small children who do not know better than eating too much. Sometimes, it also affects overindulgent adults but this is far rarer as most adults know not to eat so much.
Prevention
The best prevention is moderation
I think my mother's words to me after my brothers were ill gives the best summary of how to prevent this illness.
Cultural Reception
It is often taken as either a joke or a warning to small children about the dangers of over-eating sweet treats.
