Nectar Lip
This sweet scented flower is a rarity in the wild and one of many endangered species of plant preserved by botonists and alchemists. Known primarily for its prominent sweet smell that attracts wildlife in swarms and a natural sweetener for baked goods.
In The Wild:
Most commonly found in the plains of Cytal and the meadows of Maraleye, Nectar Lip are a flower with a warm golden colour on the outer edge of each petal. Each one growing into a curved edge making it easy for smaller creatures to take sips of water or nectar. Flowering with five to seven petals sprouting in a uniform pattern protecting the pistil that produces an intense sweet smell that can fill an entire garden with a single flower. A pleasant smell that is occasionally compared to honey with a mixture of roses and a hint of burnt treacle. When consumed in its natural, the pollen is dry but sweet. Shortly followed by an after taste of bitterness that is undesirable. Adding it to a pot of simmering water for a long period of time can remove the bitterness and create a sugary liquid which is used in various recipes. The sweetened taste can also be extracted by drying out the flower, most commonly used in baking.
Application:
Nectar lip is one of many flowers that were once abundant but have become less common in the wild. Often being preserved in the gardens and greenhouses of gardeners. Being used in many applications. The most common being that in baking and home cooking, especially in family recipes that have been past down for generations. Another common use of the flower is in pest control. With its natural aroma being detectable over a large distance, the flower is desirable by many insects and monsters. In particular the Takknir, a giant wasp creature. Monster hunters, city guard and adventurers use the flower as a lure for the monster as a way to protect the city or kill it to sell its remains to the highest bidder.
Nectar Lip sounds like the result of someone licking a magical plant on a dare and then pretending it was intentional. I do not trust anything that sounds this sweet and probably stains everything it touches. Still, I want to see some poor alchemist try to mass-produce it and lose their eyebrows in the process.
