Lucid
A condition where a sentient being is placed into a dream-like state where they are able to enter the dream realm. Interact the realm using a spiritual avatar whilst their physical body is tied to the mortal plane. This condition is one that can only be applied by consumption of complex potions or rituals performed that involve the use of Lucid Lavender.
Preparation:
Potion
In order to make an elixir that is capable of such effect, one must start with a base potion. A starchy mixture thick enough to contain the magical essence it draws from the air itself but viscous enough to allow the magic to flow freely. The base is created by boiling water infused with powdered corn, flour or potato seeds for thirty minutes or more. Before being transferred into a cauldron heated above a rune known for generating aura. Once transferred, ingredients are slowly added and stirred into the base potion. Each item adding something unique to allow the consumer to dream walk. The most associated ingredient being the petals of the Lucid Lavender, that contributes to the sleep aspect. Whilst other things such as orchid seeds allow for alertness in an unconscious state and Oogla pinser shavings help calm the body. Some recipes describe the inclusion of Faux Shroom Head to excite the imagination and aid in dream like hallucinations. The process of adding ingredients can take hours, sometimes days depending on the potency of the potion desired. One full day of brewing can create an elixir that allows the consumer to become Lucid for five minutes.Ritual
For those who wish to use practical magic, a ritual can be performed by magic users with a natural affinity for divination or soul based incantations (Soul Alum and Divination Sorcerers). For the ritual to begin, one must scribe runes around a chosen participant with any combination of aura drawing, hypnosis and sleep sigils being acceptable. Surrounding the outer edges of the runes, incense candles made of dry Lucid Lavender and wax are lit. Carved with teleportation and psychic symbols to aid the caster. Finally the caster must recite the spell of dream walking over and over again, sending the chosen participant into a deep slumber. Giving them access to the realm of dreams and becoming Lucid. The ritual will last as long as concentration from the caster is maintained and the candles continue to burn. There are just some potions beyond our grasp. Some magic beyond our ability. And that's okay, because without limitations there is no need for creativity and imagination.
Effects:
Once a target has received an elixir or partaken in a ritual, they will become lucid. In this condition, the mind of the target will be able to enter the realm of dreams. Whilst in this new realm, their mind will be aware of their surroundings. Capable of interacting with creatures, objects and people of the dream world. They will be able to see past the boundaries of dreams and freely pass from one to another with ease. Although they are in a realm made of imagination, they will not be able to conjure items out of thin air or summon other beings into the realm. Time passes differently in the realm of dreams. For every minute spent in the mortal plane, one hour passes in the dream realm. The mind and body are connected, so if a target gains injuries from the dream realm, it will affect their physical body and vice versa.
Very compelling, and a ton of room for cool stories here. I love the doctos quote too, it acknowledges the realm of the unknown even within a fantastical context. Is there any capacity for abuse of this stuff because if there is, evn a little, this could get nuts fast.
