Web of Kikullu
The web of Kikullu is an old, secret society of devoted followers. Worshipping the spider Godess Kikullu and protecting spider kind. Believing that it is their duty to protect and defend eight legged creatures until their mother returns to take them back to the native realm. Hiding in the cracks of societies where monsters are seen as nothing to be saved, the web are seen as something that should not exist.
The beginning of devotion can be traced back to days when the city of Cynnaghar still stood. When ancient monster hunters were lost in the Great Forest and discovered a Silkin Tree, lager than any they had seen before and surrounded by spiders. But the creatures were not hostile, instead they protected the hunters and guided them safely out of the forest. Over time, the once lost hunters returned to the Great Forest to aid the kind spiders again and again. Forming a bond that grew into the first iteration of the Web. As time progressed forwards, stories of the Web spread across the Forest, then the cities, then across all of Cytal. A secret society that opposed the teachings of hunters everywhere. Hidden in plain sight. Out of fear, leaders would try and find these disciples and stop it from spreading any further. Others sought out Seers in the hopes they would hear the final fate of the Web. Instead they came across a title, The Weaver. A child not of the Web but of blade and blood. The child would appear at the time when spider kind were on the age of extinction, blessed with the power of Kikullu to save her children.
Monster hunters old and new hate the Web with a passion. Partly because they stand for everything they do not and another part out of fear. For they do not know where the disciples are or how many are in their ranks. For that reason, cities such as the once mighty Cynnaghar and the now standing Yroh Wood have fortified city walls. Vigilant guards patrolling all hours of the night and train their warriors in the art of detecting infiltrators. In contrast, those who are associated with the Swiftan's Preservation Centre welcome the Web. Seeing them as another group who have a respect for animals and creatures. Although they are not fond of their methods of dealing with threats, they will help the spider guardians if they require it.
Devoted members of the Web are scattered across the continent, often hiding in plain sight not just to others but other members. To allow members to recognise one another, they use secret phrases to notify others of their presence. Along with the symbol of the Web on their body, not written in ink like a tattoo but instead strengthened silk stitched into their flesh which would look like a strange scar to the untrained eye. Once the Web are able to meet face to face, they speak freely to discuss dangers to spider kind as well as any potential sightings of Kikullu and her hopeful return. Members are also trained in a number of skills to keep them unnoticed by city guard and wandering hunters. This includes skills such as dexterity training, allowing them to use all four limbs to move silently and effortlessly as well as deception, trap building and the art of wall climbing. If the Web should ever have to take a person prisoner or use a form of aggression to get what they require, then their methods are seen as unpleasant. Often it involves tying up a target in strengthened silk and hanging them upside down for extended periods of times. Rare occasions see them leave them for the spiders to eat alive. The Web see themselves as a charitable army, defending spiders from any threats by any means necessary.
