Arðor-Kýï
Arðor-Kýï, or the Arkheotor, were a group of varied subcommunities within the Khólteð Family that existed and fought in the tumultuous conflicts of the Crisis of 24982 AYM and the Kaultedtian Wars. A term largely created by later historians, it is used to categorize the tribes that held general indifference to the ideologies of both the Arðor-Tal and the Arðor-Úŋï, and mainly looked to take advantage of the chaos for their own personal gain, or for the gain of the Family through their own devised means. Unlike these other two groups, which were highly structured and connected by formal pacts, the Arðor-Kýï were scattered and disconnected, with each group aiming to benefit themselves.
Members
The Kýïans are often separated into two or three subsections depending on when during the Crisis of 24982 AYM they were formed.
First-Phase Tribes
These Tribes were formed immediately after the Massacre of the Krëšŋ-Ðórr, one of the first major atrocities of the Crisis. They were concentrated in the southwest part of the Family territory (excluding the Krëšŋ-Ðórr and the Khëlër-Ðórr), as they were nearest to the Massacre and oftentimes bore witness to it. Their motives were also influenced by their economic and societal status; given that this region was often the destination for banished and shunned folk, the way of life was dominated by squalor and poverty. Arguably more than any other member of the Khólteð Family, these individuals were the most mistreated and thus the most disgruntled by the Family as it existed prior to and during the Crisis. Taking advantage of the vacuum of power, each of them aimed to gather forces around their own ideologies and take power over the Family as a whole (or at least achieve some influence in the immediate area), often through the Ëzó-Rhažóval, the familial seat of power in the extreme northeast. However, given their geographic locations, this was never achieved.
Vmóð-Ýïr
Main Article: Vmóð-Ýïr
The tribe of Vmóð-Ýïr was formed from the large swaths of refugees that came from the Talian territories during and after the Massacre. Situated at the tripoint of the borders of the Krëšŋ-Ðórr, Khëlër-Ðórr, and the rest of the Khólteðian Family, it quickly became the largest tribe, reaching 4,000 in a matter of two weeks. Curiously, while their population was mostly Talian in composition (one of only two Kýïan Tribes to have this distinction), they did not advocate for the Talian or Úŋïan ideologies, instead seeing the conflict between the two sides as a consequence of problems plaguing the entire Family. To resolve this, they argued, a government of representatives from both sides, which they themselves were, had to be instated. In the months of skirmishing that followed, Vmóð-Ýïr was able to dominate the southwestern region of the Khólteð Family, but were repeatedly thwarted by the Proto-Second-Phase Tribes.
Irðar-Ýïr
Main Article: Irðar-Ýïr
The tribe of Irðar-Ýïr was formed from descendants of non-Talians who were still sympathetic to the Talian cause. They had been banished to that region around 25080 AYM, simultaneous to the ostracization of the Talians (the called the Fýr-Hŋýtor) themselves. Throughout the years, they would be subject to the tribe-wide pandemonium surrounding the Ýmor-Šapariž and the Ýmïlýrhonid Movement (which the Fýr-Hŋýtor were paradoxically shielded from). Now, around 100 years later, having borne the brunt intended for both sides, the Irðarians would align themselves with neither the Talians nor the Úŋïans, but woul ferociously guard the resources under their own control.
Ðïš-Ýïr
Main Article: Ðïš-Ýïr
SImilar to Irðar-Ýïr, Ðïš-Ýïr was also made of banished peoples, in this case, the remaining Khólteðian priests and adherents of the recently-abolished state religion, the Kavamïŋ-Ïlýrhonid. They blamed the ongoing tumult and turmoil of the prior events, and of the Crisis itself, on the spiritual departure of the tribe, and crusaded for the reformation of the Family through their own leadership. In this fashion, they viewed the Ëzó-Rhažóval as not only their means to power, but as the ultimate means of bringing the Family, and by extension the entire Ïlýrhonid Tribe, back to the Kavamïŋ-Ïlýrhonid.
Úrfëš-Ýïr
Main Article: Úrfëš-Ýïr
The tribe of Úrfëš-Ýïr was the least organized of the four tribes. It was made of initially-disparate raiding and mercenary groups originating, even before the start of the Crisis, of the squalor that the region had become. As the conflict erupted, refugees flooded into this impoverished land, and the once-disparate tribes slowly grew and coalesced into a semi-organized force. Their lack of structure allowed them the flexibility to carry out a myriad of different and almost simultaneous attacks, and they are thought to have orchestrated and executed the most raids and skirmishes in the entire Crisis. After the Crisis, however, their lack of collective ideology and less-than-ideal reputation resulted in their sidelining by Šïk-hórom and quick conquest by Róšaf-Ýïr early in the Khólteðian Wars.
Proto-First-Phase Tribes
The Proto-First-Phase Tribes were those that formed near the end of the First Phase. Historians remain divided on whether these are to be categorized as indistinguishable from the rest of the First-Phase Tribes, or as their own separate category. Nonetheless, it is agreed that these Proto-First-Phase Tribes were motivated in part by the violence of the rest of the First-Phase Tribes, and inhabited the region just northeast of them. Throughout the Second Phase, they would combat these First-Phase Tribes, acting as the main barrier between them and the seat of power.
Këhóš-Ýïr
Main Article: Këhóš-Ýïr
Këhóš-Ýïr was formed and led by Ðrhuvëškal, thus representing one of the few single-leader Kýïan tribes. In essence, it seems to have been at least partly centered around Ðrhuvëškal, whether as a potential charismatic leader for the entire family or simply as the bonding agent between disparate peoples in the tribe. Nonetheless, he would play an integral and essential yet ill-defined role as the 'jack of all trades' of the tribe, managing all aspects civil and military. In regards to that latter aspect, he concentrated his efforts on the defense of tribe against the First-Phase Tribes to the southwest in an uneasy alliance with Ömak-Ýïr, but his role and reign would become especially strained during the later weeks of the Crisis. The increased chaos and complexity eventually led to his led in battle mere days before the 24982 AYM Ultimatum that formally ended the Crisis.
Following the expulsion of the Family and their resettlement in the Tayzem Desert, the Këhóšians found themselves brutally stranded and increasingly targeted by raids from Ýbašý-Ýïr, all without a leader to unite them. This would lead to the creation of the Khlúkúrmïr series of rulers, who led the tribe through the Ýïrúl War.
Ömak-Ýïr
Main Article: Ömak-Ýïr
Ömak-Ýïr was situated at the northwestern end of the dividing line between the territories of the First and soon-to-be-Second-Phase Tribes. At that time, the conflicts of both the First-Phase Kýïan Tribes and the larger Crisis were concentrated in the southwestern ends of the family territory, and as these two conflicts grew, Ömak-Ýïr felt a responsibility to protect the more peaceful northeastern lands, even as sentiments were brewing over there as well. In this respect, they served as guardsmen over the thin wall-like slice of territory they claimed as their own, and mobilized upon the onset of skirmish actions from the First-Phase Tribes. These skirmishes would weaken the Ömak-Ýïr, rendering the already-outnumbered tribe powerless against the advance northeast of the Talian and Úŋïan armies following the Battle of Arhžvóo. Following their defeat and the failure of the mission, which simultaneously resulted in the decimation of their territory, the tribe would become a traveling mercenary group that lacked real goals or objectives. Nonetheless, they participated in extened engagements with th First-Phase Tribes and ultimately proved crucial in retarding their futile attempts to the Ëzó-Rhažóval.
Second-Phase Tribes
The Second-Phase Tribes formed in the month-long period after the Battle of Arhžvóo, and are thus referred to as the Arhžvïan Tribes. Influenced by a combination of events, including the escalation of the Kýïan Wars and the shifting of the larger Crisis northeastwards, these tribes occupied the parcels of land that stretched from the Ëzó-Rhažóval in the extreme northeast to the bounds set by Këhóš-Ýïr and Ömak-Ýïr. Like the First-Phase Tribes, most of them harbored ambitious yet conflicting goals for the future of the Family and its leadership, and fought bitterly with each other and with the interim Úŋïan government of Ïlðúš-Ýïr over control of the Ëzó-Rhažóval through the Second Phase and into the rest of the Crisis.
Belúb-Ýïr
Main Article: Belúb-Ýïr
Belúb-Ýïr was a tribe formed as a cult of personality around Belš-Aŋuýb, who acted as their leader and the ideal leader of the family as a whole. This stemmed from the notion that Bels had lived with both the Arðor-Tal and Arðor-Úŋï at various points in his life, and as such, he supposedly knew the viewpoints of both sides better than anyone currently in power. In a manner similar to other tribes like the Irðar-Ýïr, they saw the path to peace and civility as being through the reconciliation of both sides and the formation of a new Family that held both in equal terms.
