Ŋöð-Ýïr

Ŋöð-Ýïr, or Noetar, was one of the 32 Ýïr that fought in the Crisis of 24982 AYM and the Khólteðian Wars. It was among the 8 Second-Phase Arðor-Kýï, and during the Second Phase of the Crisis, it was situated squarely within the territory of the Arðor-Úŋï, and engaged in a prolonged series of struggles against them. For that reason, they have often been compared to Bëðóv-Ýïr, which was similarly surrounded by forces of the Arðor-Tal and forced to engage in skirmishes to defend itself.

In the Khólteðian Wars, the Ŋöðïans occupied a territory that was fairly high up in altitude, and they would put this leverage to good use by commanding multiple campaigns into the northwestern tribes. Taking advantage of the weakened states of these tribes, they would conquer Ðïš-Ýïr, Kúlën-Ýïr, and Tóvha-Ýïr before facing Múýl-Ýïr and Halëðem-Ýïr in a multi-year struggle that finally ended with the defeat and total assimilation of the Ŋöðïans into Múýl-Ýïr.

History

Origins

Ŋöð-Ýïr consisted of individuals not affiliated with the Talians or the Úŋïans. Being a Second-Phase Tribe, the tribe simply did not exist during the First Phase, and those people who were to become part of the Ŋöð-Ýïr would live in an area close to the northeast of the tribe, but situated slightly south of the line that bisects the Khólteðian territory in two. This line had no such significance before the Second Phase, so it isn't quite accurate to say that these people all lived in a single point, or even squarely south of this bisecting line. Instead, they lived in a general area, and it is entirely possible that someone normally living to the north of the line would have ended up in the Ŋöðïan tribe through sheer coincidence or circumstance.

The closing events of the First Phase were extremely hectic. It saw the Talian army lead the Úŋïans on a destructive path that snaked through the general area north of the bisecting line to the northeast end of the Khólteð Family's land. This displaced a large swath of the inhabitants there, forcing most of them to move southwards. The military actions culminated in Battle at the Palace (the Palace being the Ëzó-Rhažóval), the most visible portion of the Khólteð Family's land. Due to this visibility, the entirety of the northeastern half of the Family land, whose populace had previously bore very little witness to the Crisis, suddenly realized the extent of what was occurring. More imperative was the realization of the Ïlýrhonid Tribe at large, and the Hyvamto-Rhïlýrhonid Zümiža would take immediate action, sending in the Ïlamatril Army to quash all violence in the Khólteð Family. This is the end of the First Phase of the Crisis.

The Second Phase saw the Ïlamatril Army conduct a large-scale operation to interrogate the Family members to learn more about the causes of the Crisis. From these interrogations, they came to understand that the Crisis's two sides were the Talians and the Úŋïans, but the many-layed complexity of those unaffiliated with either side, even those in already-established Kýïan Tribes, caused the Army to ignore the existence of these unaffiliated populations. Thus, the second document issued by Zümiža on 25 Ulta-Eimarae saw the total split of the Family land into two halves whose border corresponded to the bisecting line. The half on the north belonged to the Talians, and that on the south belonged to the Úŋïans. However, they made little effort to clear out and move those unaffiliated individuals that did not side with either one, and within the southern Úŋïan territory, a very large group of unaffiliated individuals dwelled in that area. With the threat of espionage and sabotage looming in the minds of the Úŋïans, these local inhabitants, who would group together to form Ŋöð-Ýïr, were increasingly pressured to formally join the Úŋïan cause or become evicted.

Clash with Úŋïan Forces

Given the longevity of the Ŋöðïans in their struggles against the Úŋïans, it seems clear that the main forces fighting them were part of the Šër or Kað factions. These two factions were more so concerned with a passive defense of their own peoples, and would not exert too much force, for a variety of reasons. The Šërïans' philosophy was built around a total disavowing of the Lŋórakian violence that had permeated all of the major Úŋïan operations during the First Phase, and as such, exerting too much effort would have been squarely against these morals. Meanwhile, the Kaðïans' was built around a desperate need to reform and regroup as a united Úŋïan faction, and it is likely that they feared that exerting too much force would alienate some tribes, thus putting their goals of unification at a disadvantage. Most historians agree that, given the aggressive nature of the third faction, the Mošïans, any operation made by a Mošïan tribe against the Ŋöðïans would have resulted in total assimilation within weeks or even days. The main reason why a Mošïan tribe did not do that is almost certainly because they were too preoccupied with their ongoing skirmishes against the Talians and Kýïans at the border, such that drawing their attention away from these front lines would risk letting a dangerous offense into Úŋïan territory.
