Ašëð-Ýïr

Ašëð-Ýïr, or Ëšð-Ýïr or Astedar, was one of 32 tribes of the Khólteð Family and one of the 14 Arðor-Kýï. It was one of the many Second-Phase Kýïan tribes, that is, it formed during the Crisis of 24982 AYM upon the aftermath of the Battle at the Palace and the Ceasefire of Zïlëŋý, as the agreements of the Ceasefire greatly marginalized those who were not of the Arðor-Tal or Arðor-Úŋï. In this capacity, the Ašëðians would launch numerous offenses as one of the Kýïan Tribes' most militant groups, and became one of the primary factors behind the dissolution of the Ceasefire and the resurgence of hostilities a mere seven days after its first proclamation.

The successor conflict known as the Khólteðian Wars would see the Ašëðians relegated to an extremely small territory in the southeastern coast of the Tayzem Desert, making them a target from all neighboring tribes due to its proximity to both the Ŋaraïðúl Strait and the Tžamókk Bay. However, owing to their highly aggressive military styles, they were able to persist and eventually become a major part of the tribe of Oragona through a massive struggle known as the Ašðïan War.

Etymology

The tribe of Ašëð-Ýïr carries a very distinctive phoneme, namely the 'šð' that is found in other related tribes like Hfašð-Ýïr and Ërëšð-Ýïr. This phoneme within the Ïwë-Khólteð system of affixes had heavy connotations with combat and violence, but by the time of the Crisis, this meaning had become much more violent and unrestrained in nature. The closest descriptor is that of a 'warmonger', or someone who advocates for and brutally carries out wanton acts of violence. This would become the defining characteristic of the tribes that so named themselves with this affix, and especially for the Kýïan Tribes of Ašëð-Ýïr and Ërëšð-Ýïr, whose lack of allegiance to any higher authority saw their violent actions go largely unchecked and propagate the first waves of violence that spread following the Ceasefire.

The tribe's original name was Ëšð-Ýïr, where the affix was combined with the verb 'Ë', which simply meant 'to be'. As such, the name literally means 'those who are violent' or 'that which is violent' (as per the Žömëp-Fýtaŋ custom, the plural group was often symbolized as a singular being in a metaphysical sense). This can be compared with the similarly-sounding Ërëšð-Ýïr, which had tribal origins very similar to Ëšð-Ýïr and whose name uses the prefix 'Ër' (past progressive) to mean 'those who were violent' or 'that which was violent'.

This section covers the various events and movements within Ïlýrhonidian history at large that affected the size and demeanor of the Ašëð-Ýïr tribe before it was even created.

The Army of the Khólteð Family

The individuals that would come to make up the tribe of Ašëð-Ýïr were largely part of or at least affiliated with the army of the Khólteð Family, which was raised in 25020 AYM after the Ambush of Ŋópïŋ-Arún-Khërn and the beginning of the First Ýlëntukian War revealed to the Ïlýrhonid Tribe (of which the Family was a part) the threat of the hostile Varhoŋïð-Khalúš. To prepare for any potential invasions of the Tribe by the Khalúšians, all 11 families in the Tribe raised up armies, but these were mainly to be used as a last resort, with more long-range mechanisms like the Aparaŋ-Ïlýrhonid as the main deterrents. Over the course of 30 years, the tribe stayed locked in a relatively high state of paranoia and fear, but by 24990 AYM (nearly 13 years after the actual end of the War), the lack of any such Khalúšian threat caused the tribe to relax. This relaxation included the disbandment of many of these familial armies, including that of the Khólteð Family. However, the Family's army had been one of the most vigilant and well-trained, due in part to the Family's large population that it had the responsibility of protecting, and the vast majority took a host of lessons and morals from the army service back to their everyday lives after the disbandment. This included not just mere tactics and techniques, but a renewed sense of fighting for one's virtues and values, the brotherhood and health of others, and a slew of other motivators.

The Crisis and its Effect on the Second-Phase Kýïans

Throughout the majority of the First Phase of the Crisis (12 Anta-Eimarae - 22 Ulta-Eimarae), up to around 15 Ulta-Eimarae (at and just after the Battle of Arhžvóo), the Crisis of 24982 AYM had been a very localized event, taking place at the Krëšŋ-Ðórr and Khëlër-Ðórr in the extreme southwest of the Family's land. Comparatively, all of the to-be-created second-phase tribes were situated in the northeast, and as such, for that duration, these populations had no knowledge of the violence that was unfolding and/or found little change in their immediate surroundings due to the violence. This was further amplified by the roles of the pseudo-second-phase Kýïan tribes, which were created to halt the northwesterly movements of the first-phase Kýïan tribes. However, in the Battle of Arhžvóo and the Battle at the Palace, the conflict took a dramatic change in setting, as the fleeing Arðor-Tal and the pursuing Arðor-Úŋï traveled northeast into the land of the to-be-created second-phase tribes and thus ransacked the Ëzó-Rhažóval, the highly-visible seat of familial power. At that point, which is seen as the official delineation between the First Phase and the Second Phase, the Crisis lost its secrecy; no only were the peaceful northeastern populations within the Family aware of the conflict, all other families in the Ïlýrhonid Tribe, including the Hyvamto-Rhïlýrhonid Zümiža, were suddenly aware of the rampant violence.

The Ceasefire and its Effects

To curtail this violence, Zümiža would send forth the Ïlamatril army to forcibly pacify the Family members. This army was also needed to collect information about the Crisis, which they did through questioning numerous individuals across all parts of the Family. However, given the relative uninvolved and even uninformed nature of the Kýïan Tribes, they were judged to be not as important in the negotiating details. The final Ceasefire document, written and formulated by Zümiža based on the information gathered, sought prmarily to end the conflict between the Talians and the Úŋïans, which, admittedly, was by far the most violent and visible part of the Crisis. The document aimed to end this conflict by splitting the Familial land into two equal parts, with the Talians controlling one part and the Úŋïans controlling the other. However, the Kýïan Tribes at large were given no territory at all, and rapid dissatisfaction began to fester within those parts of the population. This dissatisfaction is the root cause behind the formation of the majority of the Second-Phase Kýïan Tribes, including that of Ašëð-Ýïr.
