Beastlands

The Beastlands is an Outer Plane of unfettered nature, instinct, and harmony, where the wild world reigns supreme and civilization holds no sway. Aligned with neutral good and chaotic good, it is a realm of pure wilderness—beautiful, untamed, and teeming with life in all its myriad, primal forms. Sometimes known as the Windswept Wilds, the Beastlands reflect a cosmos where natural law and freedom coexist, and every creature lives in accordance with its true nature.

The Beastlands is a place of balance and freedom, where creatures live by instinct, not malice, and where death is part of the natural cycle, not a corruption of it. Beasts, fey, and spirits coexist without hierarchy or imposed law—life flows according to the rhythms of the wilderness, shaped by survival, respect, and equilibrium.

Predators and prey exist here, but not in cruelty or excess. Every creature has its place, and the environment reflects their needs. Even apex predators act with restraint born of instinctual wisdom rather than wanton hunger.

Magic that harmonizes with nature—druidic spells, summoning beasts, healing flora and fauna—is especially potent in the Beastlands. Spells of domination or those that seek to control the environment unnaturally may falter or fail altogether.

There are no true cities, only hidden groves, animal dens, vine-strung temples, and natural sanctuaries that offer shelter without denying the wildness around them.

The Beastlands is the soul of nature, undomesticated and uncorrupted—a place where every tree, creature, and breeze follows its own truth in harmonious freedom. It is neither savage nor tame, but authentically wild, where life is sacred, death is natural, and all things are connected through the cycles of existence. To walk the Beastlands is to shed pretense and remember the primal wisdom etched into every living being.

Geography

The terrain of the Beastlands is varied and majestic, showcasing the diversity and power of the natural world. Towering forests sprawl across entire continents, ranging from humid, moss-draped mangroves to frost-covered pine woods, and from shadow-choked jungles to sun-dappled glades. The underbrush is alive with unseen rustles, birdsong, and the eyes of wild beasts watching from the shadows.

Beyond the forests stretch rolling savannas, meadows bursting with wildflowers, and rugged highlands, where clear rivers cascade from snow-fed peaks. Even the skies reflect the living energy of the plane—vivid sunsets, soaring flocks, and great celestial beasts gliding silently above.

Light in the Beastlands is unique: the plane exists in three overlapping layers, each representing a different time of day. These layers do not rotate like celestial bodies, but remain locked in their eternal state:

  • Krigala, the first layer, is a land of eternal day, vibrant and golden, alive with activity.
  • Brux, the second layer, rests in perpetual twilight, colored by oranges and purples and filled with the sounds of the world winding down.
  • Karasuthra, the third layer, is cast in eternal night, but with a starlit sky so vivid that it glows. Nocturnal life thrives here, and bioluminescence is common.

Fauna & Flora

The Beastlands is home to beasts of every kind, from mundane animals to celestial and intelligent versions of natural creatures. Anthropomorphic animal spirits, sometimes called animal lords, serve as stewards of their respective species and may act as guides, protectors, or judges of behavior. Some mortals who lived in harmony with nature—rangers, druids, shamans, and beast-touched souls—become spirits here after death.

The plane is also frequented by divine beings associated with nature, hunting, and animal life. Travelers must adapt to the wild pace of the plane or find themselves challenged by the land itself.
