Acheron

Acheron, one of the Outer Planes, is a realm of eternal warfare, regimentation, and unending conflict. It is a plane of law tainted by strife—where order does not bring peace, but instead fuels ceaseless battle. Acheron lies between Mechanus and the Nine Hells in the Great Wheel’s alignment spectrum, representing lawful neutral with evil tendencies.

Acheron represents law without mercy, order without peace. It is the logical extension of a society where the collective goal justifies endless conflict, where the individual exists only to serve in rank and file.

It serves as a grim reflection of militarism and nationalism taken to the extreme: every person a soldier, every life a resource, every cause a justification for battle. Victory is not for glory—it is for efficiency, dominance, and unchallenged order.

In summary, Acheron is a plane of iron, discipline, and perpetual war, where the clang of steel never ceases and peace is not only absent—it is unimaginable.

Geography

Acheron consists of a seemingly infinite void filled with colossal iron cubes, each thousands of miles wide. These floating, metallic monoliths drift slowly through space, colliding at irregular intervals with bone-shaking force. When they do, the impact can shatter terrain, crush armies, or even shift entire battle lines. Some of the cubes are hollowed out with tunnels, cities, or fortresses embedded into their sides, while others remain barren or scarred from past wars.

Each cube has its own gravity and orientation, so that one may walk across its surface as if it were a world unto itself. Moving between cubes is perilous, often requiring flight, teleportation, or massive bridges and siege towers.

There are four known layers of Acheron, though most inhabitants concern themselves only with the first, Avalas, where the largest conflicts take place.

Climate

The sky of Acheron is a dull, gunmetal gray, perpetually overcast, and filled with the sounds of distant marching, clashing weapons, and war horns. There is no natural sunlight; illumination comes from cold ambient light or from artificial sources created by the armies that dwell here.

The metallic surfaces of the cubes ring and hum with the tread of iron boots and the impact of weaponry. The terrain may include forges, trenches, bunkers, and fortresses, but little in the way of natural life. Food and materials are often magically conjured or scavenged from fallen foes.

Fauna & Flora

Acheron is home to countless armies, warbands, and militarized civilizations, some native, some banished or drawn here by their nature. These include:

  • Petty gods, demigods, and warlords waging endless campaigns for glory or dominion.
  • Lawful evil souls of the dead, who serve in eternal military service.
  • Constructs and war-forged entities, perfectly suited to the plane’s mechanical logic.
  • Occasional devils and modrons, drawn by Acheron’s lawful nature.

There is no diplomacy in Acheron—only endless war, where honor is measured in obedience, and victory is bought with lives and precision. Alliances are tactical and temporary. Even when not fighting, denizens drill, patrol, or prepare for the next campaign.
