Demonweb Pits

Layer 66 of the Abyss, known as the Demonweb Pits, is the sinister and labyrinthine domain of Lolth, the Demon Queen of Spiders and goddess of the drow. Unlike many Abyssal layers that resemble warped landscapes, the Demonweb Pits are a realm entirely unlike a natural world—a vast, extradimensional network of colossal spiderwebs, suspended in a void of darkness and malice.

These webs are not metaphorical. They are tangible, enchanted strands of thick, silken material—stronger than steel and laced with Lolth’s divine power. They twist and intersect endlessly, forming an interconnected web of tunnels, bridges, and chambers, some as wide as cities, others as narrow as a crawlspace. The webbing forms natural passageways, trap-laden lairs, and cocoon-like vaults where prisoners, prey, or worshipers may be kept—some alive, some slowly dissolving into silence.

There is no ground, sky, or horizon—only an endless tangle of suspended web. Gravity is localized and relative, allowing Lolth and her minions to traverse any surface. The very air is sticky and stifling, filled with the rustle of skittering limbs, the clink of bone, and whispers from trapped souls. Faint light glows through parts of the web from no discernible source, casting eerie, shifting shadows that disorient intruders and veil dangers.

The Demonweb Pits are both fortress and spiritual sanctum—a reflection of Lolth’s essence: cunning, cruel, elegant, and deadly. The architecture varies from organic lairs woven of silk and bone to immense spider-legged citadels and shrines devoted to Lolth’s worship. Black-altared temples dot the web, and palaces formed from hardened webbing house Lolth's most favored servants—demons, corrupted drow, driders, and spiderlike monstrosities of every imaginable form.

Travel through the Demonweb is perilous. The paths shift, rearranged by Lolth’s will or the movement of the web itself. Illusions, traps, and dead ends abound. Some passages lead not just to different parts of the layer but to other planes and realities, as Lolth uses her webs as gateways to ensnare prey from beyond the Abyss. Rumors persist that the Demonweb has begun to absorb or conquer neighboring demiplanes, growing like a cancer through the cosmos.

At the heart of it all lies Lolth’s throne, a dreadful chamber of divine power where she dwells in shifting form—sometimes as a monstrous spider, other times as a terrifyingly beautiful drow, or a hybrid of both. From this seat, she plots schemes that span ages, weaving her influence into the fabric of mortal and divine realms alike.

In essence, the Demonweb Pits are a living snare—a domain of deception, cruelty, and dominion, spun by a goddess who values power through manipulation and punishment over brute force.
