The Slime Pits

Layer 222 of the Abyss, known as Shedaklah or the Slime Pits, is a vile, repulsive realm of ooze, rot, and fungal corruption, jointly ruled—though not harmoniously—by two of the Abyss’s most grotesque demon lords: Juiblex, the Faceless Lord of Slime, and Zuggtmoy, the Demon Queen of Fungi. Despite their mutual repulsiveness, they coexist in a tense but stable detente, their domains festering side by side, each too alien and insidious for the other to fully overcome.

Shedaklah is a churning mire of filth and decomposition, where the ground is a mixture of sludge, mucus, and rotting organic matter. There is no solid terrain in the traditional sense; instead, the plane is a vast expanse of swamps, bubbling sinkholes, fungal forests, and acidic bogs that constantly shift, melt, and reform. The air is humid and thick with spores, stench, and choking vapors. Nothing here is clean, dry, or still—everything drips, oozes, or festers.

In essence, the Slime Pits are an apotheosis of filth, dissolution, and rot, a realm where the boundaries between life and death, form and formlessness, are lost in a fever dream of glistening horror. It is the end state of all things: broken down, devoured, and repurposed by the mindless hunger of oozes or the insidious growth of fungus—and in Shedaklah, there is no escape from that fate.

Fauna & Flora

Though they share Shedaklah, Juiblex and Zuggtmoy are not allies. Juiblex is an entity of chaos and hunger, caring little for schemes or conquest, while Zuggtmoy is a cunning, manipulative force who views Juiblex with disdain. Yet neither can easily uproot the other—the terrain favors both equally, and each is too entrenched, too alien, and too dangerous to unseat.

Their conflict is silent and ambient, like competing infestations—occasional flare-ups of violence or territory loss, but no full-scale war. In this uneasy balance, Shedaklah thrives as one of the most unclean and revolting layers of the Abyss, a realm where all things decompose, melt, and feed upon one another in an endless, grotesque cycle of corruption.
