Augustin Marlow

Before werewolves attend their first year at Manalith Academy, they are warned about The Hound. They are told he is a traitor to their kind, and that his words are poisonous. They aren't wrong in being wary of the man. He is responsible for the cure to the Lunatic Cry, which also "cured" werewolves and depowered them permanently. The United States secretly injected many thousands of European migrants with this vaccine throughout the 40's and 50's, "curing" an unknown number of them. This information was declassified several decades ago and since then Augustin has been seen as the man who nearly ended lycanthropy.

At Manalith, Augustin is the coach of the fencing team and baseball team. He also teaches various levels of math. Most students regard him as cold, distant, and quiet. Werewolf students initially see him as a weak man but by the time they graduate they often have a respect for him that seemed impossible at first. Augustin makes no attempt at telling young werewolves to avoid the Bloodright of Leto. It is their right after all. He also has no problem describing in uncomfortable detail just how much it can change a person, and what happens to those that are afflicted with the Lunatic Cry. In short, he helps them make an informed decision, much more than the various werewolf clans ever will. The vast majority still go on to do the bloodright anyways, but they are more aware of the risk.

About three years ago, the Garou from northwest France sent assassins after Augustin after a student from their clan refused the bloodright and stayed in America. Four fully powered werewolves that did the bloodright with access to shadow magic were sent... They stood no chance. Newer students at Manalith are told unbelievable stories by their upperclassmen of how Augustin fought them in the courtyard and beheaded them all with just four swings of a saber. Some students claim that the transformed heads were stuffed and the four wolf heads mounted on the wall in the Admin building are the heads of the assassins.
