Lunatic Cry
The Lunatic Cry is a debilitating mental condition that affects a small number of Werewolves after they undergo the Bloodright of Leto. The will of the Goddess Leto becomes deeply tethered to the individual, causing them to become fanatically devoted to their goddess.
Even though Leto is currently sealed thanks to events that occured during World War 2, the last orders she gave are still active. Many Werewolves want nothing more than to kill in her name.
As the moon's phases pass and a full moon approaches, the afflicted werewolf starts to hear voices, that of their goddess, ordering them to kill. These voices become maddening to them, especially if they haven't killed anyone in a long time. They start to gradually lose their minds until the full moon occurs, where they enter a bloodlust. If they are free, they will head to the nearest non-werewolf and kill them immediately. If they are imprisoned, they will howl at the moon at a maddening tempo and attempt to break their bonds.
As the phases of the moon change towards a New Moon, they gradually readjust to normal, almost as if they are not afflicted with the condition at all. Some Werewolves regret being so devoted to their goddess and her orders to kill while others are quite regretful of their actions.
While this condition affects less than 1% of all Werewolves in current times, it at one point affected nearly all fully powered Werewolves. It is often the one thing other people know them for even though the majority of them are well adjusted individuals.
"H-hey, Bro, let me out! You can do that, right?!? Mother wants me to kill more in her name! I must be let out... I need to make her happy! Let me out, pleeease!?!"
There is a cure to the Lunatic Cry. It was manufactured by the US Federal Government in the 1950's. In the past they injected Werewolves without their consent because literally no Werewolf will agree to be injected. The reason is that in order to be fully free of Leto's influence, one must also give up being a Werewolf. They increased strength, agility, life span, and more are all gone. They are normal humans. The majority of Werewolves would rather live with the madness than be a normal human.
There are ways to sever the connection between the Werewolf and Leto, at least for a short time. A necklace made of fresh Mistletoe will work for several hours, but Leto's overwhelming influence will eventually cause the plant to die and then her connection to the afflicted will be as strong as it was before.
Being in an enclosed space made of Mountain Ashwood will also work. Many Asylums that hold Werewolves will have rooms made of Ashwood where Werewolves can be at peace from Leto's influence, where her maddening cries turn into barely audible whispers. The problem is that Werewolves that were afflicted with the Lunatic Cry over long periods of time are so devoted to their goddess that the ashwood rooms no longer work on them, so it is only a temporary solution.
