Althea Selini

Althea Selini was born and raised in Provincetown, Massachusets. The population of this isolated vacation town at the tip of Cape Cod is almost entirely made up of Water Elementals. There is an Undine settlements in the center of the Bay where she spent some winters with her grandmother. She learned most aspects of water magic from her. It was her father that shaped her dreams however. For generation, her ancestors on her father's side were sailors and navigators, who followed the constellations across the vast oceans. When she learned that each of the stars had a name and a story, she started to ask more questions and this interest propelled her into learning more about the universe.

At Manalith Academy, Selini paradoxically teaches both Astronomy and Astrology. During Third period she could be explaining how the planetary alignment of 1977 allowed Scientists to launch the Voyager Probes, and then in Fourth period she would explain how the same planetary alignment predicted various events across Earth over the following twenty years. Students entering her classes expect one or the other to be a joke but quickly learn that she takes both very seriously. To Selini the stars don't lie, whether they are being measured or read. Students who take her classes consider her to be rather strict though impressively focused teacher.

Someone who wasn't that impressed at first was Leena Rossi, a troubled child from across the country. Selini became her legal guardian after [REDACTED]. Leena went through many foster parents, so immediately dismissed her as just another temporary uncaring adult. Leena avoided her as much as she could, staying in the dorm and avoiding her house as much as she could. But over the summer they were forced into proximity and something shifted. Selini for her part didn't smother Leena with affection or try to be excessively strict. She let Leena stay up late and play all sorts of video games, but also made sure the girl was doing her chores, eating properly, and not cursing... at least not excessively. Somehow a bond formed between them. Leena calls her "Miss Selini" in public, but from time to time, a "Mom" slips out, which always throws Selini off when she hears it.
