The Blighted Coast

"I can still recall a time before the stink of death filled this place, the waters teemed with fish and fauna, birdsong would surround you and the worst thing you might come across was a beast already fat from a kill. Now... rot has taken hold of these lands and there exists in these woods naught more terrible than what might be dreamt of in the most feverish of dreams" -Captain Garael, Second Expedition Commander of The Shyem

The Blighted Coast, is a marshland located on the southeast of Khirina, the land has been poisoned by the god-corpse of Aman'Yok. Untold horrors now spew out from the marshes and waters surrounding these plaguelands and relentless assault the twin fortresses of The Mezzer and The Shyem.

Notable Locations

The Shrine of Aman'Yok

The final resting place of Aman'Yok, a humble tower of argent marble, juts out defiantly from the mires it is surrounded by. The location of the shrine was determined by Aman'yok themselves in their final hours, material was shipped to the resting place from all across the Amanite faithful of the mainland, from the quarries of Irinoff, precious marble through the territories of Enekland, from the Second Kingdom of Old Rudora the finest lumbers cut down from the holy forests of Amandale, and from the Calpurnian Kingdom their world renowned metals and gems. While support was offered from the southern Kingdom of Aminum, and the Aelven Empire of Tel'A'At were offered, it was graciously received but ultimately, declined. A decision, some declared as the interference of the grumbling of mortals in matters of the gods.

The Mezzer & The Shyem

Following the Second Council of Sanktskrat, the two remaining states agreed to the construction of defenses that protect their respective lands. Flanking Lake Nevan, the Mezzer and the Shyem were built to ward against the abominations of the Amanblight.

Geography

The Upper Peninsula

The Upper Peninsula is the Khirinan frontier against the Amanblight which has spread throughout the peninsula. It is here the Holy Protectorate guard against the horrors that travel north towards Irinoff and Enekland.

The Lower Peninsula

Completely overrun by the Amanblight, the Lower Peninsula is a place littered with the ruins of the Kingdom of Hessia, where abandoned cities, villages and towns now sink lower with each passing week into the marsh.

The Isles of Berl

At the southernmost reach of the peninsula where the marshland breaks up into small parcels of land lay the Isles of Berl. It is here, on the southernmost isle that the Shrine of Aman'Yok was constructed.

Climate

The air of the marsh chokes in the presence of the Amanblight, a non-physical corruption of the environment that rots flora and twists fauna into cruel imitations and mockeries of their previous selves. The breeze that floats between the trees smells of bilge and the rain is known to make sick those who are unprotected from it's elements. Biting chills make way for clamorous heat, giving the whole peninsula the characteristics of a terrible fever, sickening the men of the Holy Protectorate to their bones.

Before the passing of the edict, and the coming of the Amanblight, the climate of the Hessian Peninsula was much more temperate and arable land could even be found in small patches with which the Hessian Kingdom had supported itself. Now even rainfall is hostile in nature, pitting holes in iron and rusting the the divots they create.

History

Early History

Originally named the Hessian Peninsula, the blighted coast had been a for a time had been a troubled marshland not suited for the development of larger settlments. Indeed, even at the height of the Kingdom of Khirinoff, the city of Hessia was more readily accessible from seaborne travails than through the land routes that cross through the mires.

The Corruption of the Aman

Hardly noticed at first, when Aman'yok was interred upon his resting place, a corruption poured forth from the shrine. Mild agitations of the wildlife at first, disconcerting growths of gnarled treebark and bogwaters that stirred with seemingly no source. Not long thereafter, reports would be made out to Hessia but by then the corruption was already beginning it's descent upon the realms of man.
