Second Kingdom of Old Rudora

The Second Kingdom of Old Rudora is the westernmost of the Kingdoms of man. The kingdom is the successor to the original Rudoran Kingdom which was founded in 132 and lasted until the year 528 when the kingdom was conquerored by Benalon I Ulanala. As Aelven Rule collapsed a second kingdom was proclaimed as a continuation of the previous empire.

In recent history, when the Faith of the Aman proclaimed the Year's End Edict, the End Times Heralds took to the lands preaching ruin where they tread. When after visiting Old Rudora ended in hundreds of suicides by a rabid crowd of faithful, it was the decision of King Garibald Bourdot that the Second Kingdom would not adhere to the demands of the church. Since this time, there has been frequent skirmishes between the knights of Old Rudora and the Sworn Knights.

Culture

The Lion's Rite is the ritual hunting of a Rudoran Lion by the heir apparent to the throne of Old Rudora. The heir is to be accompanied by a companion and someone unknown to them, often picked by the ruling King, neither of whom are to assist the heir in their hunt, only to observe. The Heir must hunt and kill the lion and take it's fur as the cloak in which will be worn during their coronation. The call for the Lion's Rite by the king is often a sign of a failing health or an intention to abdicate the throne.

The Lion's Rite is not without incident as the Rudoran Lion is among the most ferocious of wild animals one might reasonably be able to hunt. Among those who had died trying to perform the Lion's Rite is Petar Lihl, son and heir of the legendary Anthon Lihl who had led the reformation of the Kingdom of Old Rudora.

History

Founding & Early History (132-433)

The Kingdom of Rudora has it's roots in the founding of the city of Old Rudora which came about after the marriage of the two most powerful Hill Tribes in northern Rudorei. The ideal farmlands allowed the city to quickly grow and the formation of the villages of both Seinstra and Adoran followed in the yearsa 167 and 182 respectively.

Conflicts With The Kirshani (433-514)

With the costs of the Kirshani Wars slowly bleeding the kingdom's coffers dry, a number of efforts were made to secure their gold. These included the taking on of a number of loans from the Khirinan Empire and Thanedom of Bharbadihr, in order to help counter the interests of these loans, a number of taxes and fees were pressed upon not only the Rudoran Merchants, but on foreign goods. Chief among these, were the spices that came out of the Confederacy of The Frensari, the Frensari council were outraged at these new taxes as it made the cost of business almost impossible to sustain. It was assured to the council by representatives of the court, that these were only temporary while the conflicts with the Kirshani were ongoing and that if the Confederacy was to accept these taxes in the short term, it would be a show of great friendship between them and the kingdom.

The Eruption of Gromzug & War With Illalor (514-528)

Ulanallan Rule (528-601)

The Second Kingdom of Old Rudora (602-998)

Occupation of the Wastes (602-645)

King Anthon Lihl, sent his armies in to the Wastes to find and raze half of all the villages and towns of Illalor. The remaining settlments, would be kept under military control. Having spent the last generation as a willing servant to the Illalori, the new Rudoran Kingdom was equipped by and trained by the very Aelves they now subjugated.

In the immediate aftermath of the second founding, a decree was put out for the creation of three great watchtowers to observe the lands of Illalor. These bcame known as the Lion's Teeth. In each of the towers, relics taken from the Illalori villages were festooned over the hearths of each tower.

Recent Histories (998-1134)

Over the last two centuries, the kingdom has fought for influence over Amanora with the Confederacy of The Frensari , mainly due to the large degree of Rudoran people living within the city, and at least partially due to their shared desires to have a greater degree of control over the Alchemists Guild.

In 1102, a Grand Tournament of 1102 was held by the King who wished to prevent what he believed to be was the same erosion in relations between the noble states of Kirshall that preceded the War of Rudoran Subjugation. The event was a spectacle, and costly to the crown but ultimately proved unhelpful in averting the many conflicts that would take place in a period referred to as the Decades of Blood.

When the Year's End Edict was declared in 1134, by the decision of King Garibald Bourdot, the Kingdom refused the faith. Since this time, there has been a period of unrest in the kingdom as all of the High Supplicants and many of the Lesser Supplicants departed for the neigboring Kingdom of Festinian. It was only a few skeptics in the Lesser Supplicants who have stayed and established their own branch of the faith.
