Orimid Empire

Opening Quote

The Orimid Empire is the largest of Dwarven Kingdoms in the mainland, from within the thousand mountains of the Vales of Horakh-Dhrum the eleven cities of the Empire produce Stone Marvels, Jewlery of the worlds renkown and masterworks of Iron and Steel. Guarded from nearly all sides by mountains, the only entrances to into the Empire are either through the Great Stone Gates, or through the heavily defended coast of Forgeborne Bay.

Since the cultural schism that birthed the Dwarvensun, the Dwarves of Orimid have long since kept the old ways, holding close to their chests a love for Ale, Mining and Mountains.

Diplomatic Relations

The Cities of Orimid

Every city within the Orimid Empire is constructed in circular patterns that descend deep into the ground in layers. Each layer of their cities representing a different function and purpose to Dwarven society (e.g. one level might house the nobility while another handles ale production). It is law within the Orimid Empire that foreigners are only allowed within the first two layers in order to meet over political matters or to barter and trade in the bazaars that cover the ground layer.

As a result of their designs, most Orimid cities are densely packed and contrast with the sprawl of human settlments but can extend deep into the earth as a result.

History

Earliest Histories

Known histories from the Age of the Aman

The Turning of the Ages (0-531)

In the year 339, the city of Dirlodur was lost following a cave-in that caused the collapse of the mountain passes into the city. After several days of trying and the death of a Stoneseer, the city was considered lost.

War With Benalon & The Isolation Years (531- 911)

WIth the mainland largely under Aelven rule, the Dwarves became insular and avoided trade outside of their immediate Dwarven sphere.

The Second Great Dwarven War (911-925)

When hostillities between the Empire and Thertodur broke out in 911, the conflict quickly escalated as Khenthiad promised to defend Thertodur. In response, The Emperor called upon the longstanding bond between the Empire and the The Kingdom of Thoromin. In response, the Aelves of Tor'A'An pledged their alliance towards Khenthiad and the ensuing war would be thereafter referred to as the Second Great Dwarven War. The fighting dragged on for five years and left nearly all beligerent parties exhausted in man and materiel.

Recent Years (925-1134)

Following the collapse of a cave floor, following the expansion of the city of Nar Ulihm, a passge leading back into the city of Dirlodur was discovered. What they found within the depths however, shocked the dwarves. The city had not perished over the centuries, but was twisted and corrupted by the darkness they had been surrounded in. Feral, mad and blind from generations in the dark, the city was ordered off limits by decree of Emperor Thonmon Forgeborne. The Guild of Reclamation was formed in 1002 in an effort to begin the process of recovering the city. Aspiring adventurers who wished to venture into the city and help clear out the once-dwarven creatures that stalk the city.

As with few others, the Orimid Empire has not allowed the Year's End Edict to be enacted within their borders. Emperor Morfulim Forgeborne having been long known as a skeptic of the extent of the Aman's remaining power. This has put them at odds with Hemdahn, Thertodur and their historic rivals in Khenthiad.
