Tokomaru

Wisest of the Waka, the Tokomaru people are in charge of all the sacred rites of the Māuikura. Protector of the lake Taupō they invented the Haka, the sacred dances made to honour the gods and Maui.

History

Tokomaru is known for landing on the Taranaki coast. It brought the ancestors of several families in the region, and its journey is celebrated in the oral traditions of the local tribes.
