World Ember 2024
This is an overview of ideas and articles written for WorldEmber 2024, partiularly those in any special category. I would like to focus any articles relevant to my main storyline within the world of Leanor. This could be important side characters, not yet fleshed out locations, organizations that impact the plot, really anything and anyone the main cast of characters come into contact or interact with.
Due to the time constraints a typical December usually brings, I'm not entirely sure I'll make it to ten thousand words, but I will try my best to get there. Technically, this very article was created on the 9th of December, so I could give my word count a boost by publishing it, but that feels like cheating. This here doesn't contain any actual worldbuilding, so I will publish it after the end of WorldEmber.
If you are reading this, WorldEmber is over and I probably made it to ten thousand. And if you are interested to check out my entries for this WE, feel free to click on any of the linked articles in the table below and the sidebar. Alternatively, you can also check out my entries right here .
This WorldEmber season was one of highs and lows. In early December, one of my favourite hobbies, singing, unfortunately got in the way of my other favourite hobby, writing and worldbuilding. Still, I found the time and motivation to grab my hammer and go participate and got about halfway to the goal, but then christmas happened. Between family gatherings, concert visits and the occasional (much needed) nap, time flew by, and before I knew it, there was only a week left to get the other half of my ten thousand words written.
Now, just a few hours before the end of WorldEmber, I have (barely) cleared the ten thousand word threshold with an 800+ word monster of an article. For someone who didn't have any idea which of her stubs to use, this last article was much less of a struggle to write than I'd anticipated. This supposed side character, who doesn't even have a single direct appearance in my story, turned out a lot more important to the story than even I had realized.
In general, this WorldEmber has forced me to think outside the box a little bit. Surprisingly, I found quite a few important details that still needed to be written about here. And there I was, thinking the broad strokes of my worldbuilding were mostly done. I also came up with a few ideas on the spot, and there were a few instances where one idea led to a string of other ideas that were also worth expanding on.
All in all, I once again had a good time participating in WorldEmber. Originally, I was not going to stress about winning the challenge, but in these final days, motivation and a touch of ambition pushed me to ten thousand. Now, that I've made it in the knick of time, I am proud of myself and looking forward to a hopefully successful year of worldbuilding and writing. Who knows, maybe I'll finally figure out how to end my story properly.
