Sea Raven
The sea raven, also known as teh cormorant, is a bird of prey found all over Leanor, particularly on the coasts of the Western Sea and the Silver Sea. The name sea raven would suggest, that these birds only live near the sea, but that is not the case at all. Sea ravens are found on the coast, but also surprisingly far inland near rivers and lakes.
Sea ravens are roughly the size of a small goose or very large duck. They have a fairly long neck and a long, hooked beak that is perfect for hunting fish. They have black feathers that have a distinct metallic sheen in hues of blue, green and bronze in the sunlight. Their black plumage has led to them being named sea ravens, even though they are not actually ravens.
Fish is the most important source of food for sea ravens, but as long as it is the right size, they do not care what kind of fish. Sea ravens hunt by diving after whatever fish swims by. The feathers of the sea raven absorb water, allowing the bird to dive quite deeply, but it will have to dry its feathers after diving before being able to fly again.
Most sea ravens do not migrate during the cold season, but some, particularly those who live further north where it can get quite cold, do. They move south in the winter to find places where their food sources will not freeze solid.
Sea ravens are particularly common on the Evening Isles, a group of islands which separates the Silver Sea from the Western Sea. Here, the waters are particularly rich with fish.
The Evening Isles are not only a group of islands, they are also a Lordship with a capital called Mearia. The city watch of Mearia wears black uniforms.
This attire and the maritime nature of their city has unsurprisingly earned the watchmen the nickname Sea Ravens, and not every member is happy about that particular nickname.
