Castle Guard
A castle guard is a branch of the eleonian Army, specifically of the Infantry. Its task is to guard and protect residences and other castles of Lords and Kings. Each Lord has their own castle guard, though not nearly every castle does. Generally, where the Lord or King goes, his castle guard goes. For the Lords, the castle guard includes their personal guard, only the King is entitled to a separate Royal Guard.
Unlike the Royal Guard, becoming a member of a castle guard does not require a knighthood. Instead, each year, if positions open up, the most skilled new soldiers get the chance to join. A position in a castle guard is considered a great honour. In fact, it is seen as almost as great an honour as a knighthood, especially in the higher ranks.
Just like all other branches of the eleonian Army, castle guards are structured in a clear hierachy. At the top, there is a Major, who oversees the entire castle guard. Under the Major, there are Captains, then Lieutenants, Sergeants and regular troops. Each rank has its own tasks, responsibilities and privileges.
Historically, members of castle guards are the most likely to be knighted at some point in their military carreer. Those serving at the King's castle are also the most likely to be appointed to the Royal Guard of Eleonis. Many of the Generals of the eleonian Army have been brought up through the ranks of a castle guard specifically. An appointment to a castle guard therefore can be a setup for a great military carreer.
