L1-13. Stag-Chair Cell 'Elite’s Quarters'
Suel features & lore keys
- Everyday Mural:
- From a distance: domestic calm.
- DC 12 Religion/History: spot Lydia’s teaching glyphs etched into the border and Phyton’s stylized field-scrolls in the background. Reading this correctly grants advantage on one Investigation or Insight check made in this room (the “order in the ordinary” clicks for the players).
- A faint ledger rune appears on every sixth floor tile—the temple’s cadence of order.
- Stag-Carved Chair: Hard oak, straight arms, antler finials. DC 11 History/Nature: a Phyton motif adopted by Suel households honoring tended woodland over wilderness. The antler finials can snap off (action) to become two improvised daggers (1d4 piercing) if needed.
Features & checks
- Bed: functional; the underside slat is loose (can be palmed as a club).
- Chest: plain hasp, unlocked. He uses it as a table while he eats.
- Whitewash “13”: fresh; orc tally paint.
Tactics & response
- If no earlier combat: Brughan sits in the stag chair, gnawing a gamy haunch, chest pulled up as a table.
- Opener: He hurls the greasy haunch (treat as improvised club, +5 to hit, 1d4+3 bludgeoning; on a hit, target must make DC 10 Dex or slip, falling prone), then closes with his greataxe.
- Style: Uses the chair as a shove tool (object interaction to tip; creatures behind it must succeed DC 12 Str or be pushed 5 ft). He fights to hold the doorway so help can arrive.
- Response clock: Noise here brings—
- Rooms 10, 11, 12: next round
- Chief + bodyguard: 3 rounds
- Barracks warriors: 6 rounds
Treasure (chest)
- Coins: 12 ep, 27 sp, 10 cp.
- Fine set of orc-carved knucklebones (engraved crescents and scars; 5 gp to a collector of orc games).
- Small box with chalk & charcoal sticks used for rites and body marks (orc blue crescent, Suel ledger lines).
Brughan “Stag-Mark.” script in brutal tone:
antler-chip charms clack as he leans to the gouged keyhole “Who are you, pink-skins? You breathe loud, filth. You got business here, or a death wish, maggot?”
“Temple orders? Show seal… no? I smell man-flesh—no incense, no ledger-men. You’re scum dunghill with shiny sticks.”
“So here’s your choice, swine: drop steel, kneel for ropes… or kick that door and I nail you to it one by one.”
If the door starts to open (alert combat):
“Found you! Now try and hide from this! No more games… time to die! I’ll wear your bones around my neck! Ha ha ha!”
“I smelled your fear, human! I am stroooonng!”
If the party hesitates or retreats (avoidance taunts):
“Where’d you go, huh? Gonna find you… gonna KILL you! Hey! You disappear? No fair! Go on, hide, little bleeder!”
“You can’t hide from me—I can taste your fear! Here human, human, human… I got a treat for you!”
If Brughan threatens/calls allies:
“Pink skins are here. Chief gets his prize—we will bring him! Orc not take orders from humanz, but Erk wants trophies.”
“orc take slave—hot iron on seared flesh. Drop your shiny sticks or Io will have your guts.”
