he north, where the fanatical Holy Nation rules with an iron fist, enslaving those who don’t fit their human ideal. In the west, the proud Shek Kingdom wages endless wars for honor, while the insect-like Hivers build strange cities on the edge of the world. The southern swamps crawl with smugglers, assassins, and drug lords organizing under one Swamper council. While the eastern coasts are the domain of the Brethren of the Coast, a conglomerate of pirates and scavengers. To the far south, the remnants of the Second Empire lie in ruin, a broken machine of a bygone age, and yet, the Southern Hive rises anew. A garden of twisting walls that scrape the clouds, rising like jagged chitin against the sky, a kingdom of silence where no outsider treads unmarked. Between it all lies the Border Zone, a lawless wasteland where exiles, mercenaries, and drifters fight for scraps of freedom. There are no heroes here.

Seasonal Eclipses

Kenshi circles Ashura once each day, giving rise to our familiar cycle of light and shadow. Yet twice each year, during the months of Dusktide and Redveil, the moon’s path crosses Ashura’s shadow directly. Each noon then brings an eclipse, the sky dimming beneath the planet’s vast silhouette. On the first and twenty-first days of those months, Hiraka aligns behind Ashura's far side, vanishing in unison with the greater eclipse. This event is known as the Shadowfast, a rare moment when both moon and planet disappear, plunging Kenshi into cold and darkness during it's hottest months.

In all other months, Hiraka alone slips into the planet’s shadow on those same days. These quieter events are known as Hiraka's Silence. Brief nights within daylight, unseen except by those who watch the heavens. The Holy Nation regards such times as the Hours of Narko, when Okran’s light cannot reach the faithful and even prayer must be whispered.
