Cheater's Run

Cheater’s Run sprawls across a treacherous stretch of coastline just south of the Royal Valley, a land of jagged cliffs, barren sandflats, and salt-blasted scrub that clings desperately to life. Long ago, this was more than desolation, it was passage. A great coastal trade route once wound through Cheater’s Run, linking the Ashlands with the outer world, a way to cheat death by skirting the inland horrors. Caravans crept along the sea’s edge, their cargoes of rare metals and silks bound for distant markets. But those days are gone. The Gurgler invasion shattered the safety of the coast, and with the spreading darkness of the Sonorous Dark choking the southern passes, the route has fallen into ruin. Now the Run lives up to its name in another sense, a gauntlet where only the desperate or the damned still try their luck against the gnashing sea below and the dangers lurking in the rocks above.
