Vain
One of the most unique and treacherous regions of Kenshi, Vain is defined by its sprawling, swamp-like environment and dense vegetation. This region, located in the western part of the mainland is home to the Western Hive, a faction of Hivers that have adapted to the swampy and hazardous terrain. Vain is a region of beauty mixed with danger, where the overgrown, alien-like landscape offers both opportunity and peril for those who venture into its depths.
Hello hello, traveler-friend!
If you are reading this, then perhaps you are thinking of coming to Vain, yes? Very good!
You are most welcome ~all are welcome~ so long as you do not hurt the fish or trample the roots. We Hivers are not so scary as the world says, and Vain is not so dangerous as your maps imply… at least, not if you stick to the Balik Road and walk with care.

Vain is the wet heart of the world, a place of soft mud, singing frogs, and the biggest, fattest fish this side of the Bonefields! The Pengu River feeds our bellies and our trade carts.
Its gifts are plenty: silver-scale flappers, round-glow eels, and even the prized bristlefin, very crunchy, do not overcook! Traders come from Shek mountains, desert towns, and even the Floodlands for Vain fish. It is said that one bite of smoked Pengu catfish will silence a crying noble baby. I do not know if this is true, but I hope it is.

The air here is very wet, yes. You will sweat. You will stink. You may sink. The fog is thick and full of shadows. But what beauty there is in the mist! Giant mushrooms stretch like towers, their caps dripping morning dew. The swamp hums with life, and sometimes bites. Just don’t wander at night unless you want to wake up part of the food chain.
But do not worry! The hive has built safe waystations and friendly posts along the road. You will be fed, protected, and maybe even invited to a fish boil if you smile politely. Even humans! Yes, even humans.
Vain is alive, always alive. And if you listen closely… it just might sing to you.
With many kindnesses,Buzzik of the Western Hive, Senior Drone of External Relations and Freshwater Delicacies
