Skimsands
The Skimsands are a forsaken stretch of desert, left untamed even by the reach of the United Cities. Endless dunes shift like living things, swallowing roads and landmarks alike, while jagged outcrops loom like broken teeth against the horizon. The land itself seems to conspire against travelers, its sands shimmer with strange light, weaving false horizons and mirages that lure wanderers deeper into its grasp. To cross the Skimsands is to gamble with thirst, hunger, and the desert’s cruel illusions, for here the only certainty is the shifting of the dunes.
Sand Drifters
The Sand Drifters are the only true denizens of the Skimsands, a scattered people who move with the dunes as though the desert itself were their home. They travel in loosely bound caravans, living from hidden wells, scavenged wrecks, and the secrets of the shifting sands that no outsider can hope to master. To most, they are little more than mirages themselves, traders, guides, or raiders, depending on the tides of fortune. Yet even in this unforgiving land, there are places where Drifters and outsiders alike cross paths. None is more infamous than the
Stardust Bar, a lone outpost on the edge of the Holy Nation border. Here, paladins and samurai drink under the same roof, shedding oaths and banners for a fleeting night of uneasy peace, for within its walls, combat is forbidden.
