Coins
Located north of The Gardens, Coins is a bustling district filled with shops of all kinds; a sizable portion of the goods produced in Cutters and Spinners is sold in shops here, along with many other everyday and unusual items.
The citizens of Coins are a gregarious, outgoing group with greetings, even of strangers, and are physical in nature. Perhaps it is just a hug for a first meeting, but for closer friends, a kiss on the brow is common.
In Coins promises carry great weight, if a shop owner promises they can get a particular item, not doing so could ruin their business as word spreads they are untrustworthy, consequently promises are only made for important occurrences. For everyday interactions, vague gestures they'll look into are common. Those new to Port Kolin often find this brush-off rude, and the offence they cause trying to extract a promise will make them an unwelcome visitor into the district, with prices increasing, shops closing as they approach, and Inns having no space.
As a very busy district, some time ago, an enterprising group set up a transport company for those going about their business. Small carts a fraction the size of your standard contraption, with enough space for a driver and two passengers, with purchased goods, what makes them unusal is the animals that pull them, giant beetles. There are a number of species in use within Coins, usually selecting between pulling power and speed, depending on the needs of the client. Recently, there have been attempts to modify the carts' harnessing to the beetle to allow its wing to be used while pulling the cart. These flying carts are far from perfect yet, but they are gaining popularity with the young and wealthy visitors to the district.
Coins is also home to a complex promises trading building, The Measure; due to the citizens' complex relationship with promises, it was seen as appropriate to be run and managed in an area where a promise carries such weight, the priesthoods of Elise and Lathlane can also be found in significant number ensuring honesty in the dealings.
Within the The Measure there are multiple trading rooms, of varing capacities where deals are struct for goods to be delivered for agreed prices, the major difference to your normal trading guild is these Measures are traded on, with individuals looking for better deals on the value of the Measure they hold. A prominent and skilled orcish trader, Tath Hoorgil, known for his perception and ability to predict the functions in Measure values, has recently predicted the split of Bretawald, with the prosperous southern half of the country splitting from the more sparsely populated snowy north. He says the trending value of Measures of goods from the north are showing both instability and decline in a way that suggests a collapsing northern economy to such a state that the southern part of the country will effectively abandon the north to protect its own economy and stability.
