A Legionarius is the backbone of The Legion. Serving as a heavy infantry soldier. Legionarii are highly trained and disciplined, playing a crucial role in both offensive and defensive military operations.

 

Heavy infantry, frontline soldiers responsible for forming battle lines, engaging the enemy, and holding positions. Also participate in constructing fortifications, roads, and other military infrastructure.

  • Gladius: A short stabbing sword, about 18-24 inches in length, designed for close combat. The gladius is the legionarii’s primary weapon.
  • Pilum: A heavy javelin used for throwing at enemies before close combat. The pilum has a long iron shank designed to penetrate shields and armor.
  • Pugio: A small dagger used as a backup weapon.
  • Scutum: A large, rectangular shield made of wood and leather, reinforced with metal. It provides substantial protection in battle.

  • Lorica Segmentata: A type of segmented armor made of iron or steel strips fastened to internal leather straps. This armor offers excellent protection while allowing mobility.
  • Galea: A metal helmet, often with cheek guards and a crest. It protects the head while offering good visibility and hearing.
  • Caligae: Sturdy military sandals with iron hobnails, providing both traction and durability for long marches.
  • Balteus: A belt worn over the tunic to support the gladius and pugio.
  • Tunica: A woolen tunic worn underneath the armor.
