Heirchild

Heirchild is the 13th rank in the Hierarchy of the Occult, representing the first time a dedicated Witch or Mythic brushes up against immortality. It is also the final step before they surpass the limitations of their own world and are sent out into the Mythic Maw to begin their journey as a Voyager. As such, they are the most powerful of the "worldly" ranks, often resulting in a mastery over magic that makes an Heirchild nigh-unstoppable in their native world.   This mastery, however, creates the unique balancing act that defines the wayward Heirchild. Seemingly limitless power at their command and an unlimited lifespan gives them whatever they need to achieve their own goals, but actually using their magic to its full potential will tip them towards becoming a Voyager— which, of course, will eject them from the world that has defined their goals up to that point. In a tragic turn of events, most Heirchildren become Voyagers in the single defining moment of control that would allow them to achieve their goals, defeat their enemies, and command authority over their own situation. It is this spontaneous, permanent loss that leads many ex-Heirchildren to interfere with the lives of mortals in the first place.   As future Deities, it is the responsibility of the Deity of each world to recognize, train, and nurture Heirchildren as they appear. The fuzzy line between duty and definition means that some Deities will personally elevate worthy creations to the rank of Heirchild, and others will allow their creations to grow into Heirchildren independently. It is the forged bond between creator and creation that allows Heirchildren to exist in the first place, so the truth is quite simple; regardless of choice, Heirchildren are almost always the creations that most fondly remind a Deity of themselves.
