Halfborn

Halfborn is the 4th rank in the Hierarchy of the Occult, representing the first of the Mythic ranks. Unlike Newmoons, many creatures in the Mythic Maw are born with magic already inside their bodies, taking on forms that better represent the shape of the natural magic around them. Few know this better than the Halfborn, the descendants of a relationship between a Mythic and a Witch. An innate magical resevoir does not appear in every descendant, often skipping generations or even individual siblings, but it is not uncommon at all for a Witch family with Mythic connections to give birth to several Halfborn among their Newmoon children.   Newmoons may eventually become Witches, but Halfborn children almost always follow a different path. If one of the Mythics that shares their blood is still in the family, they can receive the gift of ascension directly from their relative. But if this isn't the case, or a Halfborn is born into a non-Witch family, they can spend years trapped between two different lives. Able to innately see magic and chasing urges from their Mythic instincts, it is all too easy for a Halfborn to become isolated from their Newmoon peers.   And without guidance, a bitter Halfborn may seek out other ways to "cure" their "condition."
